President Trump Compares First Lady Melania Trump to Jackie O

The president got a swift reaction from progressives online.

First Lady Melania Trump found herself at the center of controversy this week. After her husband, President Donald Trump, compared her to former First Lady Jackie O, many people took to social media to argue that the current First Lady is nothing like Jackie O.

According to a report in CNN, during an interview with Fox & Friends, the president said, “We have our own Jackie O today, it’s called Melania. It was Jackie O and that’s good. But we have our own Jackie O today, it’s called Melania. Melania. We’ll call it Melania T, okay?”

The president made the comment after defending his decision to change the baby blue Air Force One design that Kennedy Onassis picked out in the 1960s; Trump swapped out the color for a more patriotic design.

The comparison of his wife to Jackie O led waves of people on social media attacking the president for the comparison.

One Twitter user wrote, “Melania Trump isn’t mysterious. Melania Trump is no Jackie. Melania Trump sure as hell is no Michelle. Melania Trump is out of her league. Melania Trump is scared.”

Another wrote, “Jackie O was the epitome of grace & beauty. She overcame a plethora of hardships & heartaches, with poise and elegance. She was an incredible First Lady & an even more marvelous woman. She balanced passions + duties, and did so with class. Don’t EVER compare her to Melania.”

Others attacked the president for using the word “it.” One Twitter user said, “A) ‘It’ refers to an object, a thing — not a human being. B) Melania is not fit to wipe the dust from the bottom of Jaqueline’s shoes. She could never be & will never be a ‘new Jackie O”

The president, however, insists that most people adore his wife. He interacts with thousands of Americans during his big rallies; the people who attend them see Melania in a positive light, he claims.

Trump said on Fox & Friends, “When I go speak in big crowds — we have tremendous crowds and so many people are holding up banners, you know, ‘we love our first lady,’ ‘’we love high heels.'”
