Trump Says He’s Considering Labelling Antifa An ‘Organization Of Terror’

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to say that he is giving “major consideration” to labelling the far-left group Antifa as an “organization of terror.”

“Major consideration is being given to naming ANTIFA an ‘ORGANIZATION OF TERROR,’” Trump tweeted, according to Breitbart. “Portland is being watched very closely. Hopefully the Mayor will be able to properly do his job!”

This comes as the city of Portland, Oregon is preparing for clashes between “The End of Domestic Terrorism” organizers and Antifa counter-protesters on Saturday. Joe Biggs, one of the organizers behind the event,  explained that it was being held in response to the violent Antifa protests that broke out in the city last month, which resulted in the hospitalization of journalist and editor of Quillette, Andy Ngo.

“That group of Antifa there in Portland needs to be exposed for who they are,” Biggs said. “And guess what? They should be scared.”

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler sent out a warning earlier this month to anyone who plans to “commit violence and spread hate” in the city, writing, “We. Don’t. Want. You. Here. Stop using our beautiful city and our home to spread fear and disrupt our lives.”

Trump has previously hinted that he is considering labelling Antifa as an “organization of terror.”

“Consideration is being given to declaring ANTIFA, the gutless Radical Left Wack Jobs who go around hitting (only non-fighters) people over the heads with baseball bats, a major Organization of Terror (along with MS-13 & others),” Trump wrote last month. “Would make it easier for police to do their job!”
