Ivanka Trump Attacked During Trip to South America

First Daughter Ivanka Trump was in Bogota, Colombia, over the last week to discuss women’s empowerment. Rather than reporting on the policies being pushed by the Trump daughter, many prominent media outlets–including the Washington Post–decided to use the opportunity to run hit pieces on Ivanka.

Ivanka used her time in South America to spread a message of prosperity and hope for the women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship movement. Rather than praise the White House adviser for her efforts, the Washington Post ran a piece titled, “Ivanka Trump is acting as if everything is normal. [1]” The first thing the outlet decided to rip her for? Her dress (yes, really).

The sleeves of Ivanka’s dress “were voluminous, bell-shaped swaths of green fabric. As the first daughter stood in solemn formation with the Colombian vice president, the sleeves caught a draft and attempted to launch themselves away from her body. Midair, they formed into perfect circles, and this became the hallmark photograph of the trip. Ivanka Trump from the neck up was on a mission of benign diplomacy. From the neck down, flying saucers.”

The outlet went on to argue that the wardrobe malfunction is the perfect symbol for Ivanka as a whole: dysfunctional, desperate for attention, and embarrassing.

The Washington Post was hardly the only outlet to use Ivanka’s trip as an opportunity to bash her. GQ Magazine, which is supposed to be a non-political outlet for men, ran a piece titled, “Ivanka Trump Travels All the Way to Colombia to Visit a Migrant Camp [3].”

GQ slammed Ivanka for visiting migrants in Colombia, but not taking the time to visit US-based migrants: “Perhaps the lack of soap and space makes the U.S. detention camps less ideal photo ops for the first daughter.”

As we reported last week, Ivanka has also been the target of insults on her trip due to her new bob haircut. Refinery 29 [4] sarcastically wrote, “It’s natural to wonder what’s really going on behind the scenes whenever someone in this administration changes their look dramatically. (Like last December when Melania Trump suddenly dyed her hair bright blonde right around the time her husband had been directly connected to a federal crime.) Though that look didn’t last long, it’s pretty clear the Trump administration knows that when an image changes, headlines will come.”

It seems the press has no plans to back down on their attacks aimed at members of the Trump family.
