Roseanne Barr Reemerges To Claim She Was Fired For Supporting Trump

One year after being fired by ABC, Roseanne Barr has reemerged in a new interview to claim that it was her outspoken support of President Donald Trump that did her in at the network.

“When it happened it was like I thought I was gonna lose my life. It was devastating and horrible and is unprecedented too that they would do that to me,” Barr said of the cancellation of her eponymous sitcom in 2018. “It was a perfect storm. That’s what I think, just the perfect storm at the perfect time. Kind of a little bit too perfect. Sometimes I think, ‘Was this orchestrated? The whole thing?'”

Barr was fired by ABC less than 24 hours after she posted a tweet comparing Barack Obama’s former advisor Valerie Jarrett to “Planet Of The Apes.” Though Barr apologized and blamed the tweet on Ambien, ABC refused to forgive her and cancelled her show. The rest of the cast of “Roseanne” returned months later in the spin-off “The Conners,” killing off Barr’s character with a drug overdose.

Fox News [1] reported that Barr said that she has not used Ambien since the incident.

“I’ve been [Ambien] sober for a year and a half since I got fired,” she said. “I haven’t used Ambien and my life is really, really so much better and I really would like people to understand that. That’s a very powerful drug that does a lot of negative harm to people who use it. I haven’t used it since my Ambien tweet and you’ve got to be real careful. It makes you do whack stuff.”

Barr also said that she has not spoken to any of her former costars. In fact, she blames her former costar Sara Gilbert for getting their show cancelled. Barr claimed that Gilbert’s tweet calling her comment “abhorrent” was “the tweet that got the show canceled to be honest.” That’s why she said she has no interest in speaking to Gilbert again.

“When somebody just doesn’t care how their actions affect you, what’s there to talk about?” Gilbert said. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

In the end, Barr thinks that it was her support of Trump that really did her in.

“All of Hollywood, they just hate him and they hate those of us who like him. There is no way around it,” she said of President Trump. “So, yeah, I think they took me off because I liked him and I like him because I’m a Jew and he likes Israel.”

This week, Barr is preparing to launch her comeback by embarking on a “Mr. & Mrs. America” tour with her good friend and fellow comedian, Andrew Dice Clay. Barr said that while she is looking forward to getting back onstage, she is also really nervous.

“I was really nervous … you know, really nervous,” Barr explained. “Dice talked me into it. He goes, people are wanting to hear what you have to say. I said, ‘I’ll do a couple, we’ll see how it goes.’ I love stand-up comedy and it’s just a blast to be able to go do it and have backup in the form of another great comic.”
