Trey Gowdy Attacks Democrats For Wanting To Give Kavanaugh ‘Political Death Penalty’

Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy just spoke out to slam Democrats for their witch hunt against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Gowdy blasted Democrats after the New York Times revised a report that included allegations of sexual assault from Kavanaugh’s youth.

“They really think we’re gonna have back-alley abortions if certain people are put on the Supreme Court, that your civil rights will be violated. Your kids won’t be able to go to school,” Gowdy told Fox News [1] host Martha MacCallum on Monday night, referring to Democrats’ fears when it comes to the Supreme Court. “They sell that and there’s no accountability.”

Gowdy went on to blast Democrats for wanting to give Kavanaugh the equivalent of the political “death penalty” without doing the proper due diligence of investigating the accusations. The former Republican congressman then compared Kavanaugh to former FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe, who could be facing charges.

“I was on your show last week, Martha, I said Andy McCabe’s presumed innocent. It wasn’t popular, it’s just accurate. How many Democrats have said that about Brett Kavanaugh?” Gowdy said. “How many of them have said, ‘You know what, let’s examine and cross-examine this putative eyewitness. Let’s ask him why you didn’t bring it up when Brett was up for the D.C. Court of Appeals.'”

After again accusing Democrats of being unfair, Gowdy issued a plea for fairness.

“They want to impeach him. They want to give the death penalty. I’d rather say you’re presumed innocent. Let’s be fair to people,” Gowdy said.

This comes one day after Democratic presidential candidates Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke, Cory Booker and Julian Castro declared Sunday that Kavanaugh “must be impeached” in reaction to the original Times report. This report accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting a young woman during his college years at Yale University while omitting the fact that the woman has said she has no memory of the incident ever taking place.

President Donald Trump has vehemently defended Kavanaugh in the last 24 hours, even calling on the Department of Justice to intervene in his defense.

“Brett Kavanaugh should start suing people for libel, or the Justice Department should come to his rescue,” Trump tweeted on Sunday morning. “The lies being told about him are unbelievable. False Accusations without recrimination. When does it stop? They are trying to influence his opinions. Can’t let that happen!”
