GOP Representative Introduces Resolution To Have Nancy Pelosi Expelled From Congress

As Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi continues her impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, her own position in Congress has been put in jeopardy, as a Republican congressman has introduced a resolution to have her expelled from the House.

Fox News reported that the resolution was presented by Rep. Ralph Abraham of Louisiana. While the resolution effectively has no chance of passing the Democrat-controlled House, Republicans have said that the same logic applies to the Trump impeachment inquiry, as there is virtually no way that it will pass in the conservative-majority Senate.

“Nancy Pelosi’s vicious crusade against our lawfully-elected President is nothing more than a politically-motivated witch hunt and it must be stopped,” Abraham said in a statement after the resolution was presented. “She has disgraced the people’s House and weaponized the Speaker’s gavel for her party’s political gain.”

“House Democrats spent nearly three years obsessed with election meddling only to dwarf any such efforts with their own deceitful plan to nullify the 2016 election and prevent President Trump from winning in 2020,” Abraham continued. “I have introduced a resolution calling for her to be expelled from the House and for the Speaker’s Office to be vacated.”

The resolution was reportedly closely held until today, and while it does not have any Republican cosponsors at this time, Abraham expects it to garner support quickly.

The text of the resolution states simply, “Resolved, That pursuant to Article 1, Section 5, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution, Representative Nancy Pelosi be, and she hereby is, expelled from the House of Representatives and the Office of the Speaker is declared to be vacant.”

“Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member,” the resolution continues.

This comes as the Trump administration is mirroring congressional Republicans’ aggressive approach in the way they have responsed to Democrats’ impeachment inquiry. Also on Tuesday, Trump’s State Department banned Gordon Sondland, the U.S. European Union ambassador, from appearing before a House panel conducting the probe.

“I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify, but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away, and true facts are not allowed out for the public to see,” Trump tweeted.

“What they did to this country is unthinkable,” Trump said of Democrats on Monday. “It’s lucky that I’m the president. A lot of people said very few people could handle it. I sort of thrive on it. You can’t impeach a president for doing a great job. This is a scam.”
