Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s campaign has continued to send funds to the company of the man she’s been accused of engaging in a sexual affair with.
The Daily Caller News Foundation [1] reported that FEC records [2] that were filed on Tuesday show that Omar’s campaign spent around $146,713 on Democratic consultant Tim Mynett’s E Street Group LLC between the beginning of July and the end of September. While most of the funds were for digital advertising and consulting services, about $3,000 were payments for “travel expenses.”
This is a significant increase in the amount of money Omar’s campaign spent on Mynett’s firm. In the ten months prior to that, from August 2018 to June 2019, her total spending with the firm was $223,000. A staggering 30% of Omar’s spending in the third quarter was diverted to Mynett’s company.

Omar first started reporting her payments for E Street Group’s travel expenses back in April, around the same time Mynett’s wife filed for divorce from him claiming that he had told her that he was in love with the Minnesota congresswoman. In her divorce filing, Mynett’s wife Beth alleged that his “more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related to his affair with Rep. Omar than with his actual work commitments.”
“The parties physically separated on or about April 7, 2019, when defendant told plaintiff that he was romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar,” Beth claimed in her filing, according to The Washington Free Beacon [4]. “By way of example, days prior to defendant’s devastating and shocking declaration of love for Rep. Omar and admission of their affair, he and Rep. Omar took the parties’ son to dinner to formally meet for the first time at the family’s favorite neighborhood restaurant while plaintiff was out of town. Rep. Omar gave the parties’ son a gift and the defendant later brought her back inside the family’s home.”
Omar has since been hit with an FEC complaint that accuses her of illegally using campaign funds to pursue a romantic affair with Mynett. Her attorneys have dismissed the complaint, calling it a baseless “political ploy.”
At the end of August, Omar denied that she was having an affair with Mynett.
“Are you separated from your husband? Are you dating someone?” a reporter asked the congresswoman.
“No, I am not,” Omar replied. “And like I said yesterday, I have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue.”
However, Omar filed for divorce from her own husband Ahmed Hirsi earlier this month.
“There has been an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship,” Omar stated in her own filing.
