Trump to cut off cash to sanctuary cities: ‘Do not protect criminals!’

By PoliZette Staff | March 7, 2020

President Trump confirmed Thursday he is moving ahead with withholding grant money from cities that give legal aid and comfort to illegal aliens who are trying to avoid arrest for crimes they have committed, the so-called “sanctuary cities.”

“As per recent Federal Court ruling, the Federal Government will be withholding funds from Sanctuary Cities. They should change their status and go non-Sanctuary,” the president said. “Do not protect criminals!”

His action is based on a February court decision that ruled in favor of the Trump administration. The Department of Justice recently commented on the ruling: “Today’s decision rightfully recognizes the lawful authority of the Attorney General to ensure that Department of Justice grant recipients are not at the same time thwarting federal law enforcement priorities.”

“The grant conditions here require states and cities that receive DOJ grants to share information about criminals in custody. The federal government uses this information to enforce national immigration laws—policies supported by successive Democrat and Republican administrations. All Americans will benefit from increased public safety as this Administration is able to implement its lawful immigration and public safety policies,” the DOJ statement said.

Leftist elected officials were quick to condemn Trump and the court: “The Trump administration’s scare tactics destroy trust in law enforcement. The day our police ask for immigration status is the day people stop reporting crimes and sharing information. It’s the day we stop being the safest big city in America. We won’t let that happen,” recently said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.

His stance on this matter is a major contributing factor to the rise in crime and homelessness under his administration.

But in a retort to de Blasio, Fox News reported that “ICE Acting Director Matt Albence noted that ICE’s New York City Enforcement and Removals Office issued detainers on 7,526 subjects who had criminal histories, including 3,500 assaults, 1,500 DUIs, 1,000 sex crimes, 1,000 weapons offenses, 500 robberies and 200 homicides.”

The list notes one thousand sex crimes and two hundred murders. The people who committed these crimes are the people who de Blasio is protecting and who the president is trying to put behind bars.

The issue will no doubt be fought all the way up to the Supreme Court, where the Trump majority seems ready to give the president what he needs to protect the nation from this illegal immigrant crime wave.
