Kamala Faces Backlash After Declaring She’s “Proud” of Jacob Blake, Who is Accused of Raping a Woman While Her Child Slept Next to Her

It's possible to support police reform and retraining cops without glorifying criminals and people who harm others

OPINION: Kamala Harris is receiving backlash after her recent comments following a visit with Jacob Blake – a young man who was shot 7 times in the back by police when he resisted arrest after he violated a restraining order at his ex-girlfriends home. Harris left the meeting and said she was “proud” of Blake.

Blake is accused of recently raping his former girlfriend with his fingers while her son slept next to her. Blake then reportedly “smelled” his fingers and accused her of sleeping with other men. This is a horrific allegation and the reason why he was not allowed at her house and why police were called to the scene.

The Blake story has incensed me because of this very recent rape accusation. I am a sexual assault survivor. Without going into all the gory details, I was “roofied” in a bar and assaulted in the backseat of my own car in a parking lot. So I have a serious issue with glorifying a man who is accused of raping a woman while her child slept next to her.

Many people called out Harris for insulting every woman out there who has been sexually assaulted by claiming she’s “proud” of an accused rapist.

Here are some of the responses:

“PROUD of him? He’s accused of breaking into a sleeping woman’s house, sexually assaulting her, humiliating her & later returning to harass her. Then the cops she called for help say he resisted arrest, assaulted them & went for his knife. How about a word for his victim, Senator?”

“Sen. @KamalaHarris “Proud” of alleged rapists since 2020.

“Kamala Harris met with a criminal today who allegedly broke into a woman’s home, raped her, stole her car, and then resisted arrest. She told Jacob Blake she is “proud of him.” Democrats have lost their minds.”

“BREAKING: Kamala Harris reportedly told Jacob Blake Jr. she is “proud of him.” He faces charges of sexual assault, among others.”

“Kamala Harris told Jacob Blake that she is proud of him. He raped someone and violated a restraining order multiple times. He had a warrant out for his arrest. He resisted and was shot. Now he is honored like a saint. Imagine how his victim feels.”

“Kamala Harris says she’s proud of Jacob Blake after meeting with his family. Harris, just like the entire NBA, refused to address the brutal sexual assault allegation against Jacob Blake. What happened to the #MeToo movement Harris supported so much?”

It’s possible to support police reform without glorifying criminals and people who harm others. You can call for reform, protest, and demand better from your police without turning someone like Jacob Blake into a civil rights hero.

Yes, he deserves his day in court, but his alleged victim also deserves respect, and so do all of the women who have been sexually assaulted. His police encounter should be thoroughly investigated and if cops did anything wrong, they should be punished. But in order to do all of that, we don’t have to turn Blake into a hero.
