NFL ratings for Sunday Night Football plummet almost 30% as league goes full ‘woke’ for opening weekend

Over the past few weeks, the NFL has been submitting to the radical left, devoting itself to social justice as it goes full “woke.” Unfortunately for the NFL, however, this is backfiring on the league hard, as ratings for Sunday Night Football just plummeted nearly 30% over the opening weekend.

Ratings for NBC’s only weekly NFL game crashed a staggering 28% on Sunday night, according to Deadline. The outlet reported:

Putting on the two teams with big national followings, SNF snared a 4.7 in early ratings among adults 18-49 and 14.81 million viewers last night.

In numbers certain to change, that’s a fall of 28% in the ratings and a hard decline of 23% in sets of eyeballs from what the September 8, 2019 official start of SNF snagged in the early numbers of its opening game of last season. While the early Nielsen data lacks West Coast numbers, which is kind of important when you have a team from the mega-market of LA playing, this result is going to be hard pill for the NFL and NBC to swallow.

Making this even more disturbing for the NFL is the fact that this game featured the Dallas Cowboys, who have one of the biggest fanbases in the league, taking on the Los Angeles Rams, who play in the second largest media market in the nation.

Under normal circumstances, the game would have likely done extremely well in the ratings. However, it seems that Americans would rather turn off their televisions and not watch football at all than see overpaid young athletes kneel during the national anthem and lecture the rest of us about radically liberal social justice causes.

This comes after the NFL submitted itself completely to Black Lives Matter, allowing players to kneel during the national anthem as much as they please. The NFL is also playing the black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice And Sing,” before the “Star Spangled Banner.”

The NFL needs to realize that the majority of Americans rightfully see kneeling during the national anthem as a clear sign of disrespect to the flag and those who have fought and died for it. If the NFL is going to continue to allow players to disrespect the flag in this way, the league should expect ratings to continue to decline going forward.
