Wendell Pierce spent years starring with Meghan Markle on the television show “Suits,” but unlike much of Hollywood, he was not a fan of her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on Sunday night.

Daily Mail reported that Pierce, 57, blasted Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview as “insignificant” given the fact that people are still dying of COVID-19 all over the world.

“Today, 3,000 people are going to die in America from COVID,” Pierce said. “A couple of hundred people are going to die, even this hour, in the UK.”

Not stopping there, he went on to say that the bombshell interview evoked Shakespeare’s phrase “full of sound and fury signifying nothing.”

“‘It was quite insensitive and offensive that we are all complicit in this sort of palace… gossip in the midst of so much death. I think it is insignificant,” Pierce continued.

When asked who he included in this criticism, Pierce replied by saying “everyone,” including Oprah, US network CBS, ITV, Prince Harry and Meghan, and the Palace. Later on in his interview, he added that the monarchy should not get involved “in this sort of conversation,” and instead should “focus on the throes of death that we’re in.”

Though race played a big role in Pierce and Meghan’s roles on “Suits,” he said they never talked about it much off-camera.

“We didn’t have long discussions about it, besides what was in the script and what was happening in our personal lives,” Pierce said.

Pierce’s statements are a stark contrast to those made by Meghan’s other “Suits” costars Patrick J. Adams and Abigail Spencer,  who voiced their support for her in the lead-up to the interview. Neither of them have commented on it publicly since, however.

Meghan shocked the world in her interview when she claimed that she faced racism from within the royal family, accusing an unnamed top royal of wondering what color the skin of her then-unborn son Archie would be. She also claimed that she felt so isolated as a royal that she began having suicidal thoughts during her pregnancy.

“As an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is different than I think what people expect it to be, it’s really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes, I’m ready to talk,” Meghan said.
