Trump Reemerges To Blast Mitch McConnell In Blistering Speech To Republicans

Former President Donald Trump ripped into Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) during a gathering on Saturday night, blasting him for not doing more to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

While giving a speech to members of the Republican National Committee (RNC) at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump reportedly called McConnell a “dumb son of a bitch,” according to The Washington Post.

Not stopping there, he also suggested Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) would have fought for Trump if they were in the same party.

“If that were Schumer instead of this dumb son of a bitch Mitch McConnell, they would never allow it to happen. They would have fought it,” Trump said. “I hired his wife. Did he ever say thank you?”

Trump was referring to his nomination of Elaine Chao, who served as Transportation secretary in his administration and is married to McConnell.

Though Trump and McConnell were aligned during his four years in office, their relationship went off the rails after the 2020 presidential election, as McConnell was reported to be urging senators not to oppose the certification of the results, according to The Hill.

Back in February, Trump released a statement slamming McConnell in front of the entire nation.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump said at the time. “He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country.”

“Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First,” he continued. “We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.”

This came days after McConnell issued a statement of his own blaming Trump for the Capitol riots that took place in January.

“There’s no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day,” McConnell said on the Senate floor. “No question about it.”

It seems that to this day, there is no love lost between Trump and McConnell.
