During an interview with “CBS This Morning” this week, former First Lady Michelle Obama revealed the hobby that she picked up in quarantine.
Michelle told host Gayle King that she has taken up knitting in the past year, saying that she often makes things for her husband, former President Barack Obama, and their two daughters Malia and Sasha.
“I’m still not working at the pace I was working. I still have more freedom to do the things that I want — I’m knitting now,” Michelle told King, who jokingly responded by saying “no disrespect” but the hobby sounded “very old lady.
“I like creating something out of nothing. But it’s not old lady, I don’t want you to come for my knitting community Gayle,” Michelle fired back.
Michelle went on to say that she made a crewneck sweater for Barack, saying that while he hasn’t worn the clothing item, “he loves” it.
“He will [wear it]. It was finished when it got a little warmer. So it’s ready for him,” she said. “I made halter tops for Malia and Sasha that they love.”
This comes after Michelle opened up about what life is like in quarantine for her family back in March.
“We have our health and we are together as a family. And we’re not getting on each other’s nerves, so we count our blessings,” Michelle told Entertainment Tonight [1] at the time. “We try to eat dinner together as a family every night. That’s a pretty important ritual, so we usually have dinner at about 6:30, that’s pretty regularly, and we have different kinds of foods.”
“Pizza is on the list, it’s one of the favorites, but it’s pretty balanced,” she continued. “We usually try to have a delicious protein and a vegetable. And then depending upon what I’m trying to accomplish — for me, personally, I may not have a carb — but then there’s my husband, who needs lots of food, eats tons of carbs. So we try to make sure it’s balanced.”
When asked back in September by talk show host Rachael Ray if Barack and their two daughters were getting on her nerves in quarantine, Michelle emphatically responded, “Yes, girl! Ah, my God. They can.”
“It’s really interesting, because sometimes Barack just comes into the room, and I’m in the middle of something, and he’s like, ‘What are you doing?’” Michelle said [2]. “And I’m like, ‘Nothing. Nothing. Just please go.’ Sometimes you just don’t want to talk. You’re not ready for a check-in when they are.”
