Trey Gowdy Blasts Democrats – Says They’ll Be Minority Party If Afghanistan Withdrawal Is Their ‘Reelection Message’

Former Congressman Trey Gowdy went on Fox News on Tuesday to blast the Joe Biden administration for their August 31 deadline of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan. Gowdy went so far as to say that if the Afghanistan withdrawal is the Democrat’s “reelection message,” they will end up a minority party.

“I don’t know the [Democrats’] motives,” Gowdy said during the Fox News appearance. “I do know that it is indefensible if you’re running for reelection to say, ‘hey, after 20 years, women and girls are still at risk. Religious minorities are still targeted, journalists are being beaten up.”

“We can’t get Americans out, and oh, by the way, in the last week, 13 coffins came back to Dover Air Force Base. But by golly, we met Joe Biden’s deadline,'” he added. “If that’s what you’re running for reelection on, that you will be a minority party.”

“So I think if given the choice, do we continue to write stories about the disaster that is Afghanistan and give Kevin McCarthy a chance to be the Speaker of the House?” Gowdy continued. “Or do we pivot and talk about something else? I think the Politicos and The New York Times…The Washington Posts of the world are going to pivot now.”

“Now, I do trust the real jury, the American people, and when they see images of people falling out of airplanes and they see women and girls after 20 years of our sons and daughters being killed, 20 years…women and girls are still second-class citizens, I think that jury will be much tougher than the media,” he concluded.

This comes days after Gowdy said that Biden’s August 31 withdrawal deadline “makes no sense.”

“Trey, you hear those stories, and we hear about the success of the thousands and thousands who have gotten out,” said Fox News host Bret Baier. “But there are many more Afghans especially who won’t get out, and there are some Americans who won’t make that last plane either.”

“Right, Bret, which is why this August 31st deadline that he will not budge from makes absolutely no sense. And just in case people are not familiar with ISIS-K, that’s a new name,” Gowdy replied. “Bret, that’s the group that went to the maternity ward of a hospital and killed infants and new mothers. That’s who was let out of prisoner.”

“That’s who is left in Afghanistan,” he continued. “So why we are so hellbent on leaving August 31 when we have people that helped us behind, I don’t understand.”
