Here’s Why Kate Middleton Was Left Confused And ‘Squirming’ During Meeting With Jill Biden

A royal reporter is speaking out this week to reveal why Kate Middleton, the wife of Prince William, was left confused and “squirming” after meeting with the First Lady Jill Biden last year.

“It is always a really tricky area as a royal correspondent if you are covering one of their royal engagements,” said Richard Palmer, according to The News. “You are always dying to ask questions or whatever but the rules of engagement are that you don’t ask questions.

“Occasionally, in fact quite often, there are sort of ‘off the cuff’ remarks and a bit of banter between members of the Royal Family, but you are not supposed to turn it into a question and answer session,” he added. “When I was down there, covering Kate with Jill Biden during the G7 Summit. That was quite interesting to see the Duchess squirming as the White House press call turned it into a press conference.”

Kate welcomed Biden to the United Kingdom in June of last year.

“Welcome to the UK, @FLOTUS,” Kate and William tweeted at the time. “It was great to host Dr. Jill Biden and experts from the UK and the United States for a discussion on the importance of early childhood on lifelong outcomes, on the first day of the #G7 Summit.”

Palmer took to Twitter at the time to tweet about Kate being asked about her niece Lilibet, who is the daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“I wish her the very best. I can’t wait to meet her,” Kate said of Lilibet. “We haven’t met her yet. I hope that will be soon.”

When asked if she has FaceTimed with the baby, Kate replied, “No, I haven’t.”

Kate and William had celebrated Lilibet’s birth weeks before.

“We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili,” they said at the time, according to E! News. “Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”

Earlier this year, a close friend of Kate’s told Daily Mail that she’s “very much a future queen in the making” but “still struggles to mix with world leaders such as the Bidens’ because she’s a natural introvert.”

“[Public speaking] is not something that she relishes doing, at all,” the friend added of Kate. “She’s not a put yourself out there, extroverted type of person, it’s just not who she is. But she knows it’s an important way for her to make a positive contribution and there are some times that you need to get out there and speak for things you believe in.”
