New details have come to light about how First Lady Jill Biden really feels about Kamala Harris, with it being claimed that she did not want her to be picked as her husband’s Vice President.
In their new book “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future [1],” Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns explore the process of choosing Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020.
“‘There are millions of people in the United States,’ she began. ‘Why,’ she asked, ‘do we have to choose the one who attacked Joe,'” read an excerpt of the book that was obtained by Fox News. [2]
Others close to Biden supported Harris, however, with Ron Klain, now the White House chief of staff, saying that she was the person most qualified for the job.
“Yes, Harris had attacked Biden more harshly than any other major candidate in the Democratic primaries. Yes, the Biden family had seen it as a smear and a betrayal. In Klain’s assessment, that would work to Biden’s advantage,” the book stated. “Choosing Harris will show people that you are magnanimous and forgiving, Klain told Biden. It will show the country just what a unifying leader you can be.”
Biden himself was also reticent about choosing Harris, pointing out the “past romantic relationship with Willie Brown, the former San Francisco mayor who had appointed Harris to a pair of minor political positions,” with Biden describing this behavior “as the kind of thing that should be off limits.”
The book claimed that other people Biden considered to be his running mate included New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“He asked me to sell him on vice president: ‘Why should you be the vice president?’” Lujan Grisham said. “I didn’t ask to be vice president. You asked for me to be vetted — you tell me why you think I would make a good vice president. This was not my idea.”
Even with her history of targeting Biden, Harris was seen as the best choice to be his running mate by his advisors.
“You know, white women are incredibly racist, as are white men,” said one close advisor to Biden. “None of it was safe. It was a risky thing to do. But it was the safest of choices that we had.”
This book is set to be released in stores on May 3. It will certainly be interesting to see what other revelations are made in it.
