Army Dad from Texas Goes Viral for What He’s Doing to Protect His Son’s School

Following the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the White House, Democrats, and the mainstream media all took turns promoting the narrative that placed the focus of the heinous act on guns. Even before the shooting at Robb Elementary School, the Biden administration pushed for more laws surrounding guns and even a ban on certain assault rifles. The agenda carried over as Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke actually interrupted Texas Governor Greg Abbott while he was trying to convey the resources available for the victims, families, and first responders. Of course, that ended up being a staged event.

That was only one incident as there have also been protests happening outside of the NRA. But while Democrats and liberal activists hoped to use the tragedy for their own agenda, one father and Army vet didn’t care much for opinions, debates, or speeches as he simply stood outside his son’s school, doing nothing more than keeping watch.

Living in Killeen, the father, Ed Chelby, was around 180 miles from where the mass shooting took place. His son attended the Saegert Elementary School and like most parents, the tragedy made the father hesitant about the security and safety of where his son went. Knowing other parents are carrying the same burden, Chelby sought to give some relief when he showed up to his son’s school not armed. That’s right, in the video below, Chelby didn’t stand guard with any sort of weapon or rifle. Take a look.

Speaking with reporters, Chelby admitted, “I said I would just be out there unarmed to let people know that I’m watching. Let the parents have a little bit of relief. I can’t let this go. This is just a testament to the sleeplessness caused by the grief I experienced.”

Going beyond his reason, the vet noted, “Well, I just knew with my background in security and my background in the military that I had the skill set to actually provide some sort of security. I do live right across the street on the backside of the school. I have a son that goes there, my wife is one of the registered nurses there. I just felt overly compelled with my availability to step forward and do something. I think that’s the first thing any of us can do in the path forward is take the first step.”

While Chelby revealed that him standing outside the school was for his own peace of mind, he added, “Yeah, that was the whole point of me being there. I mean, selfishly it was for myself as well, for the ease of my own son, my wife, her co-workers, and the other children. I coach baseball in the community and a lot of the students I’ve also coached in baseball. And then the parents, they were feeling the same anxiety I was the night before and the day of and to be out there and provide them some sort of ease, knowing that somebody was out there watching. I would do it all over again.”
