Whoopi Criticizes Archbishop for Banning Pelosi from Communion Due to Abortion Stance

Not long after a San Francisco Catholic Archbishop announced that he would not be allowing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to receive Holy Communion due to her stance on the abortion debate, none other than Whoopi Goldberg, who is one of the several host of “The View”, decided to lecture the archbishop about the difference between church and state.

Not wasting any time as the floor was hers, Goldberg explained, “The abortion rights battle is starting to blur the lines between church and state. The archbishop of San Francisco is calling for Speaker Nancy Pelosi to be denied receiving communion because of her pro-choice stance. He’s one of the priests who also called president Biden to be denied sacrament. That is not, you can’t, that is not up to you to make that decision.”

On Friday, making the decision, archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone wrote in a letter, “As you have not publically repudiated your position on abortion, and continue to refer to your Catholic faith in justifying your position and to receive Holy Communion, that time has now come. Therefore, in light of my responsibility as the Archbishop of San Francisco to be “concerned for all the Christian faithful entrusted to [my] care” (Code of Canon Law, can. 383, §1), by means of this communication I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.”

It should be noted that Cordileone tried numerous times to speak with Pelosi on the issue, but the Democrat never engaged him. Still, the archbishop added, “Please know that I stand ready to continue our conversation at any time, and will continue to offer up prayer and fasting for you.”

Standing with Goldberg, Ana Navarro declared, “The Catholic Church has lost 20% in attendance since the year 2000. Why? Because they’re against artificial birth control. They are against in vitro fertilization. They won’t give you communion if you are divorced or if you are a gay couple, and because of things like this, and in the meantime, if they really want to protect children, they have tallied 17,000 at least complaints of molestations by priests since the year 1980.”
