Pelosi’s Husband’s Past Comes Back To Haunt Him After DUI Arrest – He Killed His Brother In 1957 Car Crash

Nancy has yet to comment on her husband's arrest

Earlier this week, we reported that Paul Pelosi, the 82 year-old husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), had been arrested for DUI in California. Now, Paul’s past has come back to haunt him, as it’s been revealed that he killed his brother back in 1957 in an early morning car accident.

Daily Mail reported that Paul was 16 years-old and a sophomore in high school when he lost control of a sports car he was driving, causing the vehicle to flip over. Paul managed to escape with a broken collarbone, but his 19 year-old brother David was killed in the crash.

A patrolman quoted in a report from around the time of the crash said that David had been begging Paul to drive slower in the moments before the accident.

“This is a bad stretch – better slow down,” David is said to have told his brother as they came up on a tight curve near the Crystal Springs Dam on the Skyline Highway, which is now California State Route 35.

“The car veered across the road, bounced back from a small embankment, climbed 20 feet up another, spun around and somersaulted simultaneously and ended upside down on the shoulder with both youths underneath,” a newspaper report about the accident said.

David is believed to have been strangled in the crash by a neck brace that he had been wearing at the time after a diving accident. While reports stated that Paul would be cited for misdemeanor manslaughter, there was never a court case and he went on to be exonerated by a coroner’s jury.

Paul would go on to marry Nancy in 1963, six years after this crash, and they have since had five children together. Prior to his DUI arrest on Saturday night, Paul had been cited twice in 2011, once for running a red light and then again for veering over the center line while driving.

Paul was arrested this past weekend after driving his 2021 Porsche home from a dinner party in Napa and veering into a jeep. Police arrested Paul after he was found to be under the influence, and he was then released on Sunday morning after posting $5,000 bail.

“Mr. Pelosi was attending a dinner party at the home of friends near Oakville,” said his attorney. “He left that party at 10:15pm Saturday, to drive to his home a short distance away. He was alone in his car. Mr. Pelosi was fully cooperative with California Highway Patrol officers who arrived a few minutes later.”

Nancy has yet to comment on her husband’s arrest, and she went forward with giving the commencement speech at Brown University in Rhode Island on Sunday. Though her family owns multiple vineyards in California, Nancy has long claimed that she does not drink alcohol.
