California State Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil is in the spotlight after her former chief of staff, Chad Condit, filed a civil lawsuit against her. Condit claims that Alvarado-Gil, who recently switched from Democrat to Republican, forced him into unwanted sexual favors during his employment.
The accusations also allege retaliation, discrimination, and a host of other violations, all of which paint a troubling picture of a hostile work environment under the senator’s authority, as reported by KRCA 3.
Condit, who served on her campaign when she first ran for Senate District 4 in 2022, became her chief of staff following her election. According to Condit, things took a dark turn when he was pressured to perform sexual acts while traveling with the senator.

He alleges that these acts were forced upon him in a quid pro quo arrangement, and that when he refused, his job was threatened.
The allegations reach an absurd level, with Condit claiming that a back injury during one such encounter left him with multiple herniated discs and a collapsed hip. After this injury, he began refusing Alvarado-Gil’s demands, leading to a “bogus” disciplinary letter and eventual termination in December 2023.

Condit even claimed that the senator tried to hire his wife as part of an intimidation tactic to get him to resign.
Alvarado-Gil’s attorney, Ognian Gavrilov, came out swinging, labeling Condit’s claims as nothing more than a “fabricated, outlandish story” designed to secure a payday. The senator’s legal team insists that she will be fully exonerated, dismissing the lawsuit as a ploy for financial gain.
The California State Senate is also implicated in the lawsuit, with claims that the institution failed to address Condit’s complaints and even ratified Alvarado-Gil’s alleged actions. However, the Senate’s secretary, Erika Contreras, has stated that while they take such complaints seriously, they cannot comment on ongoing litigation.

Condit, the son of former Congressman Gary Condit, who himself faced media scrutiny in the infamous Chandra Levy case, has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, the Senate Republican Caucus press secretary, Jacqui Nguyen, emphasized that the senator is fully cooperating with the investigation, but that the legal process must run its course.
Although Alvarado-Gil has recently switched political parties, she now finds herself facing a new wave of controversy as the allegations against her continue to unfold, drawing significant attention and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the lawsuit.
