The announcement, made Wednesday night on Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, places Lake at the helm of the U.S. government-funded international broadcasting network.
President Trump praised Lake’s credentials and outlined her mission in this role. “I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America. She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media,” Trump wrote.

Lake, a former news anchor in Arizona for over 20 years, left her career in protest of what she described as “COVID-19 and 2020 election propaganda.”
Her close alignment with Trump and her vocal support of election integrity have made her a prominent figure in conservative circles.
Lake’s appointment follows her high-profile run for the U.S. Senate in Arizona, where she faced significant scrutiny over the election process.
Lake and her supporters raised concerns about anomalies in the state’s voting system during the race, particularly in Maricopa County, which accounts for over 60% of Arizona’s voters.
Claims of irregularities in counties such as Pima, Yuma, and Cochise further fueled skepticism about the election results.
Despite these concerns, Lake ultimately lost the race to Democrat Ruben Gallego.
The defeat came amidst ongoing legal challenges and public disputes with Maricopa County election officials, including Stephen Richer, the county’s top election official.
Richer, a self-proclaimed “anti-MAGA” figure, filed a defamation lawsuit against Lake during the election cycle, raising questions about his impartiality in overseeing the process.
The Voice of America, established during World War II to counter Nazi propaganda, now broadcasts news and cultural programming to a global audience of over 354 million people in nearly 50 languages.
Funded by the U.S. government through the U.S. Agency for Global Media, VOA aims to promote American values and interests worldwide.
Under Lake’s leadership, supporters anticipate a strong push to counter what they describe as “anti-America propaganda” from the left.
Lake echoed this sentiment in her statement following Trump’s announcement. “Under my leadership, the VOA will excel in its mission: chronicling America’s achievements worldwide,” she declared on social media.
I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America. @VOANews is a vital international media outlet dedicated to advancing the interests of the United States by engaging directly with people across the globe and promoting democracy and truth.

Arizona Congressman-elect Abraham Hamadeh, a close ally of Lake, applauded the decision.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Hamadeh wrote, “Kari Lake will do a phenomenal job broadcasting the America First message to 300+ million people weekly across the globe.”
Congratulations to @KariLake on her appointment as the Director of the Voice of America!

Lake’s appointment marks a significant step in reshaping the direction of the Voice of America.
Trump emphasized that her leadership would ensure that American values of freedom and liberty are represented “fairly and accurately,” contrasting it with the narratives of mainstream media.
As Lake prepares to assume her role, she is expected to work closely with the next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, to be announced soon.
Her supporters view her new position as a continuation of her advocacy for election integrity and conservative principles on a global stage.
