Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas claimed during a podcast interview Monday that Republicans could be planning to interfere in the 2026 midterm elections through the use of Dominion voting machines — a claim for which she provided no evidence.
Crockett made the remarks on “Defending Democracy with Marc Elias,” hosted by Democratic election attorney Marc Elias, while discussing recent developments involving Dominion Voting Systems and its new ownership under Liberty Vote founder and chairman Scott Leiendecker.

Leiendecker, a former Republican election reform advocate, purchased Dominion Voting Systems in October.
The acquisition included an agreement to end remaining litigation between Dominion and several conservative media outlets.

“We do know that one of his friends has purchased Dominion,” Crockett said.
“So, it’s going to be really important for us to educate all states that we can to make sure that their secretary of states are like, ‘We don’t want the Dominion machines.’”
Crockett further speculated that Leiendecker’s purchase could lead to manipulation of voting machines to benefit Republicans in the next election cycle.
“Because I personally believe that that ally purchased Dominion so that he could potentially play with the machines, because we know that they’re trying to cheat by changing the lines for the midterms,” she said.
“And I think that they’re trying to solidify their cheat potentially with the voting machines.”

In October, Leiendecker said his purchase of Dominion was designed to restore public confidence in election systems and to modernize voting infrastructure while ensuring transparency.
“Every legacy system is under review. Liberty Vote will be 100 percent American-owned, American-built and independently audited,” Leiendecker told the Daily Caller at the time.
“We won’t ask for trust — we’ll earn it and prove it.”

In a company press release, Leiendecker said, “Liberty Vote signals a new chapter for American elections — one where trust is rebuilt from the ground up.
Liberty Vote is committed to delivering election technology that prioritizes paper-based transparency, security, and simplicity so that voters can be assured that every ballot is filled-in accurately and fairly counted.”
Dominion Voting Systems was at the center of controversy following the 2020 presidential election, when several outlets and individuals made claims alleging the company’s technology was used to manipulate vote counts.
The company later filed multiple defamation lawsuits.
In April 2023, Dominion reached a $787.5 million settlement with Fox News, one of the largest media defamation settlements in U.S. history.
Later that year, Newsmax Media Inc. also reached a settlement totaling $67 million over the next three fiscal years, resolving Dominion’s lawsuit regarding coverage related to the 2020 election.
Leiendecker’s acquisition of Dominion reportedly required the company to drop remaining lawsuits against conservative figures and outlets, including One America News Network (OANN).
Crockett’s comments follow earlier speculation from left-leaning media figures who suggested that Republicans were preparing to influence the upcoming midterms.
Democratic strategist James Carville, former MSNBC host Joy Reid, and radio personality Charlamagne tha God all raised similar claims in July, linking their suspicions to the reconciliation bill signed by President Trump that same month.
“[Republicans are] not actually worried about getting reelected,” Reid said during a July broadcast.
“If they feared being reelected, they would not vote for this bill — because they know it’s going to devastate their states.”
The reconciliation bill extended the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanently, eliminated taxes on tips and overtime pay, and raised the child tax credit to $2,200.
Dominion continues to provide election technology to multiple states and jurisdictions across the United States, and federal election officials have made no announcements suggesting any investigation or irregularities related to its recent acquisition.
