MSNBC is Officially Dead as MS NOW Begins: ‘Same Mission. New Name.’ [WATCH]

The news outlet long known as MSNBC has rebranded [1] as MS NOW as part of a corporate transition that moves the network out from under Comcast NBCUniversal and into a newly formed, publicly traded media company called Versant.

The name change was announced Friday across the outlet’s platforms, including a post from the MS NOW Public Relations account on X.

In the announcement, the network said MS NOW stands for “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.”

The post read, “Today, MSNBC becomes @MSNOWNews: MS NOW — My Source for News, Opinion, and the World. While our name has changed, who we are has not. You’ll find the same commitment to justice, progress, and the truth.” The account added, “Same mission. New name.”

USA Today reported that the rebrand coincides with structural changes within NBCUniversal’s news properties.

The outlet noted, “The transition comes as the channel breaks off from its current parent company, Comcast NBCUniversal, and moves to Versant, an independent publicly traded media company.”

MSNBC stated in its announcement, “You’ll find the same commitment to justice, progress, and the truth. We will continue to cover the day’s news, ask the tough questions, and explain how it all impacts you.”

Industry observers noted that the return to the “MS” name echoes the network’s origins.

Breitbart News’ John Nolte reported that “MSNBC originally launched in 1996 as a joint venture between Microsoft (MS) and NBC.”

Nolte wrote that the network’s early years shifted in tone after the hiring of Keith Olbermann, adding that “in the aughts MSNBC quickly devolved into a fever swamp for far-left hate driven by neurotic white women who buy wine in boxes at the gas station.” Nolte said that Olbermann’s departure led to Rachel Maddow becoming the network’s most prominent personality, writing that she “earned massive ratings spreading wild-eyed conspiracy theories about Donald Trump.”

He also wrote that “other than CNN’s Jake Tapper, Maddow disgraced herself more than most pushing the ridiculous Russia Collusion Hoax.”

The rebranding comes at a time of broader corporate restructuring within NBCUniversal’s news operations.

Breitbart News previously reported that NBC News had laid off hundreds of employees as the Comcast-owned NBCUniversal News Group prepared to split cable properties such as USA Network, CNBC, and MSNBC from NBC News.

According to public filings, Versant will independently manage the newly separated networks while continuing to distribute their programming through existing cable and streaming partners.

The MS NOW announcement stated that the network’s editorial direction will remain unchanged despite the transition.

The relaunch marks the first major branding change for the channel since it debuted nearly three decades ago and follows years of management changes, audience shifts, and corporate realignment within the broader NBCUniversal portfolio.
