Clark County prosecutors say a Nevada teenager intentionally caused a 12-car collision that killed his pregnant girlfriend and another driver during a high-speed crash in Las Vegas on Nov. 18, as reported [1] by The New York Post.
According to Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson, 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez was driving approximately 100 mph in a 45 mph zone when he struck a line of cars stopped at a red light.
Wolfson told reporters that Gutierrez showed no signs of drug or alcohol impairment and made no attempt to brake before impact.
The crash killed Gutierrez’s passenger, 20-year-old Adilene Duran Rincon, who was pregnant, as well as 38-year-old Edward Garcia, who was driving one of the stopped vehicles.
A third victim was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Wolfson stated that the evidence, including video footage, led prosecutors to conclude the collision was intentional.
“We believe based on all of the evidence to date — including a very descriptive video — that his actions were intentional, which gives rise to a charge of murder,” Wolfson said.

Gutierrez was driving a silver 2011 Infiniti G37 registered to Rincon’s mother when the crash occurred at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and North Jones Boulevard, according to KSNV.
Police reported finding a marijuana vape on Gutierrez afterward and noted that he appeared to have bloodshot eyes, though Wolfson said the investigation confirmed he was not impaired at the time of the collision.
Because impairment was ruled out, prosecutors upgraded the initial charges of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm. Gutierrez now faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and battery with use of a deadly weapon.
Authorities also highlighted Gutierrez’s previous incidents behind the wheel. Court records show he crashed into an elderly woman in September after running a stop sign, KTNV reported.
He was also cited last month for driving 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Gutierrez’s criminal history extends beyond traffic cases. In April, police arrested him after responding to a call from a woman who said she had been hit by a man.
Officers said that when they arrived, Gutierrez threatened one of them, telling the officer, “I’ll f—king shoot you,” and “I’ll kill you.”
Gutierrez is currently being held without bail. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for Jan. 6.
