Four Killed, Dozens Hurt in 30-Vehicle Pileup on I-25 Near Pueblo, Colorado [WATCH]

At least four people were killed, and dozens more were injured, on Tuesday morning after more than 30 vehicles collided on Interstate 25 near Pueblo, Colorado, during a powerful wind storm, according to state authorities, as reported [1] by The New York Post.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. local time on northbound I-25, Colorado State Patrol Maj. Brian Lyons said during a press conference.

The pileup involved several semi-trucks, pickups pulling horse trailers, and passenger vehicles.

Four individuals, all in separate vehicles, were confirmed dead at the scene. Authorities have not released their identities.

At least 29 other people were transported to local hospitals with injuries that ranged from minor to serious, Lyons said.

Officials said the crash unfolded amid severe weather conditions that created sudden and dangerous visibility problems along the roadway.

The 30-vehicle collision happened during “adverse weather conditions,” including “high winds” that blew dirt across the interstate and created what Lyons described as “brownout” conditions.

“This was one of those storms that came through when the wind picked up very quickly, and that location down there, due to the lack of moisture, the dirt and everything just transversed all over I-25,” Lyons said.

“Visibility was next to nothing,” the major added.

Authorities said one of the vehicles involved in the crash was pulling a trailer carrying 32 goats. Four of the animals were killed in the collision, while the remaining goats were safely removed from the scene.

Emergency crews worked for hours to clear the wreckage from both directions of the interstate. According to KRDO, both sides of the highway were reopened late Tuesday after the scene was secured and debris removed.

Investigators are continuing to examine how the initial crash began and what sequence of events led to the large-scale pileup.

“Any time that someone is injured or any time that there is a life lost, it’s something that impacts all of our community and everyone that’s going to respond to those,” Lyons told reporters.

“So we just have to make sure that we do our due diligence and, like we do day in and day out, we’re going to put 100% of our effort into knowing what’s going on to make sure we can answer as many questions as we can.”

The stretch of I-25 where the crash occurred is known for sudden weather shifts, particularly during dry conditions when strong winds can kick up dirt and dust.

Authorities urged drivers to remain alert when traveling during high-wind events, especially in areas prone to reduced visibility.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the precise cause of the deadly pileup.
