Dallas SWAT Kills Man Who Oversaw Security for Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett [WATCH]

A man known publicly as Mike King, who had previously coordinated security for Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, was shot and killed late Wednesday night by Dallas Police after an armed standoff, according to reporting by CBS News Texas.

Authorities said the shooting occurred [1] after King fled from police and barricaded himself inside a vehicle in a parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

Officers with a Dallas Police SWAT team responded to the scene and used tear gas in an attempt to force him out of the vehicle.

According to a report released Thursday, King exited the vehicle while armed with a gun. SWAT officers then fired defensively, killing him.

Prior to the incident, King had been associated with security operations connected to Crockett.

Images obtained by CBS News Texas show King standing near the congresswoman at events and during her recent campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Sources told CBS News Texas that King was responsible for overseeing teams of security officers at several downtown Dallas hotels and also at his church.

Documents obtained by the outlet show that a person identified as Mike King received payments from Crockett for “security services” as recently as last year.

Additional information reported by CBS News Texas raised questions about King’s identity and background.

Multiple law enforcement sources told the outlet that the man publicly known as Mike King had been operating under aliases while running a business that arranged off-duty security jobs for police officers.

According to those sources, he operated a company called Off Duty Police Services, which functioned as an online platform intended to connect North Texas law enforcement officers with off-duty employment opportunities.

Authorities told CBS News Texas that King was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer and had claimed to be one while running the business.

Law enforcement sources also told the outlet that the man drove a replica undercover police vehicle and used license plates that had been stolen from cars outside a military recruiting office.

Officials have not publicly released the man’s real name.

Sources told CBS News Texas that King’s background included a criminal history, though authorities have not provided further details.

The revelations have raised questions about how King was able to organize off-duty police work and later serve in a security role connected to a sitting member of Congress.

If King had not been killed during the SWAT encounter, he could have faced multiple potential criminal charges related to impersonating a law enforcement officer and other alleged activity described by investigators.

King’s role in Crockett’s security operation also drew attention during her recent Senate campaign.

Crockett, who represents Texas’ 30th Congressional District, ran in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

During the campaign, Crockett’s security team faced criticism following an incident involving a reporter from The Atlantic.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, was criticized online after her security guards reportedly removed Atlantic staff writer Elaine Godfrey from a campaign rally.

Godfrey later wrote about the incident and described being removed from the event.

“Right before armed guards escorted me from the rally and left me on the edge of a Texas-county road, I was informed that I was no longer welcome at an event that I had already attended,” Godfrey wrote on Thursday.

According to Godfrey’s account, she was “thrown out” of the rally after being labeled a “top-notch hater” by members of Crockett’s campaign team.

Crockett denied that the incident occurred as described, which brought additional public attention to the episode.

In a separate situation during the campaign, members of Crockett’s security detail were accused of assaulting a conservative journalist. There have been no confirmed reports linking King directly to that alleged incident.

Crockett’s Senate campaign concluded earlier this month.

In the March 4 Texas Democratic primary, Crockett lost the race to state Sen. James Tallarico.

Tallarico will now advance to the general election contest for the Senate seat.

On the Republican side of the race, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn both competed in the primary but neither candidate secured the required majority of votes.

Because neither Republican candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, Paxton and Cornyn will face each other in a runoff election scheduled for May 26, 2026.

The winner of that runoff will move on to face Tallarico in the general election.
