The arrest has drawn attention to Duggar’s prior public statements regarding his older brother, Josh Duggar, who was previously at the center of a widely reported scandal involving misconduct allegations more than a decade ago.
In 2015, Joseph Duggar addressed those allegations during a clip for the TLC spinoff “Jill & Jessa: Counting On.” At the time, both Joseph and Josh Duggar were known for their appearances on the Duggar family’s reality television series.
Speaking in the clip, Joseph Duggar said, “Whenever somebody you respect the most is willing to get up and proclaim what we believe as Christians, about being true to your wife, you’d never think that that’s the person who’s involved in it.”
He also expressed his reaction to the situation, stating that he was heartbroken and surprised, adding that Josh Duggar had been “living such a secret life.”
Josh Duggar later acknowledged his past actions publicly, stating that he “acted inexcusably” and hurt others, including members of his own family and friends.
He said he disclosed his conduct to his family and that counseling was arranged for both him and those affected.
Although he was not prosecuted in connection with earlier allegations due to the statute of limitations, Josh Duggar was later convicted in 2021 of knowingly receiving and possessing child pornography.
He was sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison.
Joseph Duggar’s arrest marks a separate case and is being handled by authorities in Bay County. Officials have not released additional information about the investigation or potential court proceedings.
