Detectives in Madera County have arrested [1] a man in Oakhurst after a search of his home uncovered evidence tied to alleged child exploitation and invasion of privacy offenses.
Authorities identified the suspect as Christian Parmalee Edwards.
He was taken into custody earlier this month following an investigation that began with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The tip flagged suspected online distribution activity connected to the Oakhurst area.
According to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, deputies executed a search warrant at Edwards’ residence, where they discovered multiple items as part of the investigation.
Among the findings was what investigators described as a “life-like child doll designed for sexual use,” which was located with its hands tied inside the home.
Detectives also reported finding newly purchased children’s clothing and thousands of files identified as child sexual abuse material.
Authorities said approximately 30 digital devices were seized from the property and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
Officials allege Edwards possessed and distributed the illegal material.
Investigators also accuse him of secretly recording individuals who stayed at his vacation rental property.
According to law enforcement, Edwards is accused of filming women and children without their knowledge while they were in private areas of the home, specifically in the lower levels of the residence. These allegations have resulted in additional invasion of privacy charges.
Kate Woertman of the Madera County Sheriff’s Office addressed the findings and described the progression of the alleged conduct.
“This showcases the escalation in behaviors from viewing digital images to filming to physical behaviors,” Woertman said.
Authorities have not disclosed the full number of potential victims but confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify individuals who may have been recorded without their knowledge.
The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Central California.
Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue said the department is continuing to prioritize cases involving the exploitation of minors.
“Protecting the innocent, upholding the law, and holding offenders accountable remains a top priority,” Pogue said.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the forensic review of the seized devices will play a central role in determining the scope of the alleged offenses.
Investigators are working to analyze the contents of the devices to identify additional evidence and determine whether other individuals may be connected to the case.
The arrest comes as reports of online exploitation continue to increase. According to data from the Internet Watch Foundation, there were 291,273 cases of child sexual abuse material reported in 2024.
That figure represents nearly 800 reports per day and marks the highest total recorded by the organization.
Authorities said the investigation into Edwards remains active as they continue to process evidence and seek out additional information related to the case.
