Texas Woman Accused of Driving Through Crime Scene and Running Over a Dead Body

Authorities in Texas say a woman drove through a cordoned-off crime scene and ran over the body of a man who had already been pronounced dead, according to officials in Bexar County, as reported [1] by The New York Post.

The incident occurred on Feb. 27 near State Highway 211, where deputies were already investigating a fatal crash involving a 61-year-old man.

According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, the man had first been struck by a vehicle before a second driver hit him as he lay on the roadway.

Salazar explained during a press conference that the victim had initially been clipped by the side mirror of a passing vehicle. After the initial impact, the man remained on the roadway where a second driver struck him.

Authorities said the 61-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies closed off the roadway to traffic and covered the body with a sheet while investigators began processing the scene.

Both drivers involved in the initial incident remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Sheriff Salazar said authorities do not currently suspect criminal wrongdoing related to those drivers.

Shortly after deputies secured the area, a third driver allegedly entered the blocked-off section of the roadway.

According to investigators, 26-year-old Tionne Spears drove through the barricaded crime scene area and ran over the body of the victim, which was still on the roadway.

Sheriff Salazar said Spears also nearly struck two deputies who were standing near the scene, conducting their investigation.

Despite the dangerous situation, no additional injuries were reported during the incident involving Spears.

Deputies detained Spears following the crash and began investigating the circumstances surrounding her actions. Authorities said investigators suspect she may have been intoxicated at the time.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that Spears was in possession of khat, a stimulant plant that originates in Africa. Law enforcement officials say the substance can affect the body and potentially reduce a person’s tolerance to pain.

Salazar addressed the discovery of the substance while speaking to reporters.

“The drug ‘does have some extremely measurable effects on the human body,’” Salazar said.

Authorities said toxicology testing is underway to determine whether Spears had the substance in her system at the time of the incident or whether other substances may have been involved.

Investigators are awaiting the results of those tests as part of the ongoing case.

Spears was taken into custody and transported to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center following the incident.

Authorities said she has been charged with driving while intoxicated, abuse of a corpse, and possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff Salazar noted that the incident was unlike anything he had encountered in decades of law enforcement work.

“I’ve been doing this job 33 years now and never heard of somebody barreling through a crime scene like that and running over a dead body that’s already on the roadway.”

Investigators are also trying to determine why the victim was in the roadway prior to the initial collision.

According to authorities, a black Chrysler 300 registered to the victim was located near the scene, though officials have not yet provided details about how the vehicle may be connected to the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing evidence and awaiting toxicology results connected to the case.
