Two Arrested After a U.S. Park Police Officer Shot in Southeast D.C. Ambush [WATCH]

Two suspects have been arrested following the shooting of a U.S. Park Police officer in what authorities are describing as an apparent ambush in southeast Washington, D.C., on Monday evening, as reported [1] by The New York Post.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed that Darren Foster, 21, of southeast D.C., was taken into custody shortly after the shooting on Monday. A second suspect, Asheile Foster, 22, also of southeast D.C., was arrested Tuesday.

Both individuals have been charged with assault on a federal police officer with a gun.

According to police, the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. while the officer was investigating a U.S. Park Police-related incident. The officer was inside an unmarked Tesla vehicle at the time of the attack, as first reported by FOX 5 DC.

Authorities say two armed men approached the vehicle and opened fire, striking the officer in the upper body. Despite being wounded, the officer was able to drive away from the scene, which allowed emergency responders to reach him.

The officer was later transported by the U.S. Park Police aviation unit to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening, and the officer has since been released from the hospital.

Investigators are now examining evidence suggesting the suspects may have been aware that the individual inside the Tesla was a law enforcement officer at the time of the shooting.

FOX 5 DC reported that MPD has information indicating the attackers knew the victim’s identity, though authorities have not released a motive.

On Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a residence located near the site of the shooting.

According to reports, officers entered the home with weapons drawn as part of the operation. A K-9 unit was also deployed during the search.

The investigation is being led by detectives from MPD’s NIBIN Investigations Unit. The unit includes agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, working alongside U.S. Park Police detectives.

Officials have not indicated whether additional suspects are being sought.

Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or whether the officer was targeted specifically due to his role.

The case remains active as investigators continue to gather evidence and review the events surrounding the attack.

The arrests came within hours of the initial shooting, with law enforcement moving quickly to identify and detain those believed to be responsible.

Officials have not disclosed whether the suspects have retained legal representation or when they are expected to appear in court.

Police have not provided additional information about the weapons used in the shooting or how the suspects were located following the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
