American Woman Missing After Reported Fall Overboard During Boat Trip in the Bahamas

An American woman is missing after reportedly falling overboard during a boat trip in the Bahamas on Saturday evening, according to authorities, as reported [1] by Fox News.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. as the woman and her husband were traveling by boat from Hope Town to Elbow Cay.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said the woman fell into the water during the trip and was quickly swept away by strong ocean currents.

Authorities said the woman had the boat’s ignition key with her when she went overboard, which caused the engine to shut off.

According to police, her husband was unable to maintain visual contact with her as the currents carried her away.

Both individuals involved are U.S. nationals, officials confirmed.

After losing sight of his wife, the man paddled the disabled vessel toward shore. He eventually reached the Marsh Harbour Boatyards at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, he alerted someone at the location, who then contacted authorities to report the woman missing.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force has launched an investigation into the disappearance. The search effort also involves the Royal Bahamas Defense Force as well as Hope Town Fire & Rescue personnel.

Officials have not released the woman’s identity and have not provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the fall.

The incident comes as the U.S. State Department continues to advise caution for Americans traveling to the Bahamas.

The agency currently lists the country under a Level 2 travel advisory, urging visitors to “exercise increased caution” due to concerns that include crime, beach safety, and watercraft-related risks.

The State Department has also noted that boating activity in the Bahamas is not consistently regulated, warning that “injuries and deaths have occurred.”

Authorities have not indicated how long search efforts will continue or whether any additional resources will be deployed in the operation.
