A woman was shot and killed by police late March 7, 2026, after allegedly pointing what was later determined to be a pellet gun at officers responding to a reported robbery in Los Angeles, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m., when officers assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division responded to a radio call of a robbery in progress at a convenience store located at 15300 South Figueroa Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed a suspect behind the store’s front counter.
Police later identified the individual as 53-year-old Cynthia Anne Ivie Akers.

According to authorities, officers issued multiple verbal commands in an effort to gain compliance from Akers. Police said those commands were disregarded.
Officials stated that Akers then moved toward the counter area, retrieved a handgun from a zippered bag, and pointed it in the direction of responding officers.
That action led to an officer-involved shooting.
Akers was struck by gunfire during the encounter.

Officers took her into custody and immediately began rendering medical aid while requesting emergency medical assistance.
Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene.
Despite life-saving efforts, Akers was pronounced dead at the location.
