Former Gettysburg Mayor Chad-Alan Carr is being held without bail in Texas after his arrest on charges related to alleged child sex crimes, according to court records and law enforcement officials.
Carr was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday for an arraignment but waived [1] the hearing.
Court documents indicate that he is being held without bail because “No set of conditions can be set to ensure the safety of the children in the community.”
Authorities said Carr was taken into custody last week by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.
The arrest followed charges filed in Pennsylvania, where he faces multiple felony counts involving alleged child sex crimes.
According to investigators, Carr had previously been arrested in Pennsylvania and was released after posting $100,000 bail.
After his release, officials said he left the state, prompting further action by law enforcement.
Police in Adams County filed additional charges after Carr’s departure and issued a nationwide arrest warrant.
Authorities said the new charges were filed after three men came forward alleging that Carr sexually abused them when they were minors.
The allegations first became public earlier this year and led to Carr’s resignation from office in March.
He had been elected mayor of the Borough of Gettysburg just months earlier.
Carr previously served as a member of the Gettysburg Borough Council before running for mayor.
In the 2025 Democratic mayoral primary, he defeated incumbent Mayor Rita Frealing by 43 votes.
Frealing later secured enough write-in votes in the uncontested Republican primary to appear on the general election ballot.
In the November general election, Carr defeated Frealing by a margin of 185 votes to become mayor.
Following his resignation, borough officials formally accepted his departure and appointed a replacement mayor last month to fill the position.
Law enforcement officials said Carr remains in custody in Texas as the legal process continues.
He is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing on April 22 related to the new charges filed in Adams County.
In addition, Carr is scheduled for a non-trial disposition on April 28 at the Adams County District Attorney’s Office in connection with the original set of charges filed against him.
State Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information may continue to emerge as authorities review evidence and conduct interviews.
Officials have also asked members of the public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in the case.
