A woman was arrested [1] in San Diego after an incident at a recreation center that was captured on video and later circulated online, showing a confrontation between the woman and a police officer.
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 6 p.m. on March 21 to the Linda Vista Recreation Center following reports of a woman behaving aggressively toward others at the location.
Authorities said the woman made racist comments directed at both adults and children at the site.
Police said officers located the woman in the skate park area of the recreation center.
Upon contact, authorities alleged that she became confrontational and did not comply with commands given by officers.
Video of the incident shows an officer standing in front of the woman, who is seated at a table.
The officer’s left hand appears to be holding the woman’s left hand, with both individuals engaged in what appears to be a struggle.
Moments later, the officer uses his other hand to take hold of the back of her neck and forcefully brings her to the ground.
Witnesses are visible in the background of the video, along with a marked police vehicle parked near the area.
As the woman is taken down, her body strikes the pavement and appears to bounce upon impact. Her sunglasses fall off during the movement, and individuals nearby can be heard reacting.
The officer then turns the woman onto her stomach and attempts to restrain her by gaining control of her hands.
While on the ground, the woman can be heard yelling, though her words are not clearly audible beyond several expletives.
As the officer attempts to place handcuffs on her, the video shows the woman appearing to move toward the officer’s hand.
During this moment, the officer is heard shouting, “Stop biting me!”
The video concludes with the woman remaining face down on the ground while the officer continues to issue commands.
She is heard making additional noises as the officer works to secure her.
Authorities said the officer sustained an injury during the encounter.
The officer’s left hand reportedly had swelling and an abrasion and he was later treated at a local hospital.
Emergency medical personnel responded to evaluate the woman at the scene before she was transported and booked into jail.
Police said she faces multiple charges, including delaying or obstructing officers, resisting an officer with violence, and committing a felony while out on bail.
The identity of the woman has not been publicly released.
An inquiry was submitted to the San Diego Police Department seeking additional details and updates, including confirmation of her name.
The incident has drawn attention online following the release of the video.
The footage shows the interaction from the initial contact through the arrest, including the physical struggle between the officer and the woman.
Public response to the video has been mixed. Some individuals expressed support for the officer’s actions, while others raised questions about the level of force used during the arrest.
