Actress Patricia Heaton is urging a reduction in heated political rhetoric following a shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C.
According to details provided in , the incident occurred Saturday at the Washington Hilton, where Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, Melania Trump, and other senior officials were in attendance. Authorities said shots were fired near the ballroom after a gunman exchanged fire with Secret Service agents in the lobby, as reported [1] by the New York Post.

Law enforcement identified the suspect as Cole Allen, 31, of Torrance, California. Federal sources told Fox News that Allen indicated he intended to target Trump administration officials. Investigators said he prepared a manifesto outlining his intent and had posted anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric on social media prior to the incident.
Authorities stated that Allen allegedly rushed a Secret Service checkpoint while armed with multiple weapons and opened fire, striking a Secret Service officer in a ballistic vest. Agents returned fire and subdued the suspect.
Both Allen and the injured officer were transported to a hospital. The officer was later released Sunday and is expected to make a full recovery.
Officials also reported that Allen’s brother contacted the New London Police Department in Connecticut before the shooting, warning that Allen had sent family members a manifesto describing his intent.
His sister, Avriana Allen, told investigators in Rockville, Maryland, that her brother had made increasingly radical statements and frequently spoke about taking action regarding issues he saw in the world.
The incident adds to previous threats involving the president, including two confirmed assassination attempts and a recent security incident at Mar-a-Lago.

Referencing past elections involving Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, she wrote:
“I wasn’t happy when Clinton, Obama or Biden won, but I didn’t call them fascist/dangerous/threat to democracy. I didn’t hope someone would assassinate them. I went on with my life with gratitude. Friends on the left, please try this. Your life and our country will be better.”
Heaton has previously commented on political rhetoric following violent incidents. After the September 2025 killing of Charlie Kirk, she criticized reactions online, writing: “The most violent rhetoric is always from people who have phrases like ‘choose kindness’ in their bios.”
Following the 2024 presidential election, Heaton also addressed political commentary directed at voters. In a video shared on X, she said: “To all these extremists that are allowed television time, who told women that this is what is going to happen to them, shame on you! Shame on you!”
She continued, “Apparently, there are some really vulnerable people here who you targeted, and you fear-mongered to and you need to go back on the air and tell them things are going to be okay, tell them that they’re fine.”
“Also, stop saying people who voted differently from you are ‘uneducated’,” she added. “Learn your f-ing lesson about smearing people who vote differently from you, who have different needs from you, who have legitimate complaints. Quit dismissing them as uneducated. When are you going to learn?”
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as authorities continue to review the suspect’s background and communications.
