A 55-year-old American woman has been identified after she went missing in the Bahamas during a boating incident over the weekend, prompting an ongoing search effort by local authorities, as reported [1] by The New York Post.
Lynette Hooker, a Michigan resident, disappeared Saturday night after falling from a small dinghy while attempting to return to her yacht, the Soulmate, according to Bahamian officials.
She had been traveling with her husband, Brian Hooker, 58, when the incident occurred.

Authorities said Lynette Hooker was on an 8-foot dinghy when she fell into the water while trying to board the couple’s yacht. Officials reported that strong currents quickly carried her away.
“Strong currents subsequently carried her away, and he lost sight of her,” authorities said. Officials did not confirm whether she was wearing a life jacket at the time.
According to reports, Hooker was holding the boat’s key when she went overboard, which caused the engine to stop running.
Her husband later made his way to a marina in Marsh Harbour around 4 a.m. Sunday to report her missing, triggering a search-and-rescue operation.
The couple had spent the past three years documenting their boating [6] lifestyle online under the name “the Sailing Hookers.” Their social media accounts featured posts about their time traveling by sea.
“We sailed away from BS. A married couple living their best life,” the couple’s TikTok bio said.
In the hours before her disappearance, Lynette Hooker and her husband shared a photo of a small boat positioned in shallow waters near a jetty.
“Not going anywhere for a while?!” the caption read.
Recent posts also showed the couple navigating difficult weather conditions. One video depicted their yacht in heavy rain, while earlier footage showed them scuba diving and traveling through clear waters.
Hooker’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, said she has received limited information about the circumstances surrounding her mother’s disappearance and is calling for a thorough investigation.
“My sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and make sure a full and complete investigation is performed into her disappearance,” Aylesworth said.
“While the Royal Bahamian police are investigating this matter, I would also appreciate any involvement of the federal, state or local authorities to look into the circumstances of this tragic situation.”
Aylesworth also shared a photo of her mother on social media, captioning it “Mommy.”
The Royal Bahamas Police Force continues to lead the investigation and search efforts. A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed that the agency is assisting Bahamian authorities in the case.
Tourists traveling to the Bahamas have been advised to exercise increased caution, according to State Department guidance.
Officials also recommend that boaters closely monitor local weather conditions and marine alerts while navigating the waters.
Authorities have not released additional details about the search or the conditions at the time of the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue efforts to locate Lynette Hooker.
