Katy Perry had some lighthearted fun reacting to the news that her former flame, Josh Groban, is engaged.
On Monday, the pop superstar posted a TikTok video lamenting Groban’s engagement to British actress Natalie McQueen.
In the clip, Perry wore a white bathrobe, poured a full glass of what looked like Champagne, and sipped while pretending to cry over the announcement, as reported [1] by Page Six.
Her 2011 hit “The One That Got Away,” which she has previously confirmed was inspired by Groban, played in the background of the video.
Perry captioned the post with a simple “congrats” and added a champagne emoji, giving her well wishes to the newly engaged couple.

The playful post quickly drew major attention from fans in the comments, who couldn’t get enough of Perry’s tongue-in-cheek reaction.
“This is bold, and I love it; maybe they will break their engagement for you,” one follower teased.
Another commenter admitted, “I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE THIS IS KATY PERRY’S ACCOUNT.”
Some called Perry “crazy” for her humorous approach, while others praised her for doing “the funniest thing” in response to the news.
Though Perry’s video appeared to poke fun, her history with Groban goes back to 2009, when the two briefly dated. That connection inspired speculation for years about whether “The One That Got Away” referenced him.
In 2017, during a livestream promoting her “Witness” album, Perry confirmed that the emotional track was indeed about Groban.
Groban later spoke on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” in 2018, expressing genuine surprise at the revelation. “I was not expecting that. That was a double-take and a spit of my coffee when I saw that,” he said at the time.
He added with amusement, “It’s very sweet of her to say that. And then I listened to the lyrics of the song. And I’m like, ‘I never owned a Mustang. I don’t have a tattoo. Are you sure that’s about me?’”
Still, Groban called the gesture flattering and said he had only fond feelings toward Perry, remarking that they decided they were “better as friends” because they were both very private people.
“We’ve been very good friends to this day,” he said. “She’s the best.”

Perry, who is currently dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, didn’t dwell long on heartbreak in her post but instead leaned into humor and nostalgia—something her fans immediately celebrated with shared laughter across social media.
