Representative Veronica Escobar found herself wading into very risky territory while appearing on CNN's’ State of the Union over the weekend.
The Texas Democrat decided to run her mouth about President Donald Trump in a way that could open the door to yet another defamation lawsuit for the network.
It is a strange move, given that ABC just had to cough up $15 million to settle with Trump earlier this year.
The payout came after George Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton operative turned television anchor, falsely stated on air that Trump had been found liable for rape in the E. Jean Carroll civil case.

That claim was flat-out wrong.
The jury found no such thing.
Trump was found liable for defamation in the case, but not for rape.
Yet ABC allowed Stephanopoulos to make the reckless comment, which set the stage for one of the biggest on-air defamation settlements in recent memory.

Now, Rep. Escobar may have repeated old mistakes.
Her decision to parrot the same kind of charge shows either complete ignorance of the legal facts or a startling disregard for accuracy.
Either way, it puts her in the crosshairs of a man who has repeatedly shown that he is not afraid to fight back in court when media outlets smear him.
Escobar’s comments highlight how deep the media misinformation machine runs when it comes to Trump.
WATCH:
Democrats and their media allies so often live inside their echo chamber that they no longer seem to care if the words they repeat are rooted in fact.
The strategy has always been to hurl accusations as loudly as possible, then hide behind press privileges and party loyalty when sued.
Trump shattered that playbook when he held ABC accountable, forcing a rare moment of financial pain for one of the major networks that has spent years trying to destroy him.
Fifteen million dollars is not pocket change, even for a media giant.
That settlement was reportedly directed toward Trump’s presidential library fund.
It is a poetic twist that their smear ended up financing the preservation of the very legacy they tried to demolish.
Escobar’s reckless commentary also reflects a broader trend on the political left.
Many Democrats are so obsessed with painting Trump as a criminal that they no longer distinguish between reality and fantasy.
Legal nuance, facts, and due process have vanished from their vocabulary.
To them, every headline must confirm their hatred, and if it does not, they invent one that does.
It is the same strategy we saw in the coverage of Russiagate, the impeachment hoaxes, and every other media driven scandal that crumbled once examined closely.
For Trump’s supporters, this latest episode fits the pattern perfectly.
Every time Democrats and their media allies think they have him cornered, they end up paying for it, literally and figuratively.
While the left obsesses over imaginary crimes, Trump continues to build his campaign, strengthen his support, and watch his opponents implode on camera.

Escobar herself may soon find that congressional privilege does not extend to television gossip.
Politicians love to sound bold on air, but when the lawsuit arrives, the same bravado rarely lasts.
But she is part of the same Democrat machine that never admits a mistake, so expect her to double down instead.
Meanwhile, conservative Americans have had enough of this two tier media landscape.
They see how networks like ABC and CNN protect Democrats while targeting Republicans with lies, distortion, and selective editing.
Trump broke that monopoly, and every desperate smear attempt only proves why his fight against the corrupt press still resonates with millions.
When the lies start costing real money, maybe then the so called journalists will remember what integrity looks like.
But given the weekend performance from Veronica Escobar, it seems that lesson still has not sunk in.
