Disgraced Democrat Mayor Confesses to Dirty $50,000 Bribery Plot [WATCH]

Former Jackson, Mississippi Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, once hailed by Democrats as a rising progressive leader, has finally confessed [1] to conspiring in a real estate bribery scheme worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The man who once preached about integrity and transparency is now admitting to a federal crime that exposes the moral rot running deep inside local Democrat politics.

According to federal prosecutors, Lumumba pocketed 50,000 dollars in campaign contributions from undercover FBI agents who were posing as real estate developers.

The payments were facilitated by Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, a fellow Democrat and longtime political ally of Lumumba.

Owens himself pleaded guilty last month, confirming that he funneled the bribes directly into Lumumba’s operation.

Both Lumumba and Owens now face up to five years behind bars for their illegal dealings.

The indictment made clear that Lumumba fully understood what he was taking when those checks arrived.

“Lumumba accepted the checks knowing and understanding that the money was from the Developers, and that it was being offered in exchange for official action from Lumumba in favor of the Developers’ proposed development project,” the court documents state.

Investigators revealed that Owens helped disguise the payments as five separate campaign donations of 10,000 dollars each.

The false contributions were routed through third parties before ultimately landing in Lumumba’s campaign coffers.

Once the money was laundered through those accounts, Lumumba allegedly cashed out a portion for himself, closing the loop on the entire crooked transaction.

The Department of Justice detailed how Owens orchestrated the scheme using FBI funds as bait.

Agents offered to grease the wheels of a multi million dollar downtown Jackson development project, and Owens agreed to ensure it received city approval.

It was a textbook case of political corruption and power abuse that unfolded at the highest levels of the city’s Democrat leadership.

WATCH:

Back in 2024, when the investigation first became public, Lumumba called the entire thing “political persecution.”

He claimed he had “never accepted a bribe of any type,” insisting that his record as mayor was spotless.

It turns out, that was just another Democrat politician lying through his teeth to protect his own career.

While Lumumba was pleading innocence, the evidence was already stacking up.

Secret recordings, undercover payments, and official documents painted a different picture from the one he had been selling to Jackson residents.

It is remarkable how often so-called reformers in the Democrat Party turn out to be the very crooks they claim to fight.

Lumumba’s fall from grace also closes an embarrassing chapter for Mississippi Democrats.

Once celebrated as a progressive visionary who followed in his father’s footsteps, Lumumba now joins a familiar list of failed liberal mayors who left their cities broke, crumbling, and riddled with corruption.

His father, Chokwe Lumumba Sr., served as mayor for barely a year before his death, and the younger Lumumba turned his legacy into a political machine plagued by scandals.

Jackson voters were clearly ready for change when they booted Lumumba out in the 2025 Democrat primary.

At the time, residents cited frustration over the city’s deteriorating infrastructure, chronic water issues, and rampant crime.

Now it is clear the problems extended beyond policy failures. Corruption at the top guaranteed that city hall served special interests rather than citizens.

The irony of the case is hard to miss.

Democrats like Lumumba built their brand on fighting supposed “systemic injustice,” yet they keep proving that the only system they care about is the one that enriches themselves and their friends.

Owens’s participation as the chief prosecutor of the county only deepens the disgrace. The man responsible for enforcing the law was busy breaking it to pad political advantage.

The fallout could reach far beyond Jackson’s city limits. Republican lawmakers in Mississippi have already called for a deeper audit of campaign finances and contracting practices across the state.

With Democrats continuing to dominate local offices, many want assurance that taxpayers are not funding more secret deals hidden behind the curtain of “economic development.”

The case also raises questions about how the Democrat Party will attempt to spin this one.

Lumumba was often touted as a face of young, progressive leadership in the Deep South.

Now, his guilty plea becomes a national embarrassment for a party that cannot seem to keep its hands clean, even at the local level.

Neither Lumumba’s legal team nor Owens’s office responded to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

That silence speaks volumes. When Democrat officials go from championing the “people” to taking bribes from federal agents, they rarely have much left to say in their own defense.

For Jackson residents who spent years hearing speeches about accountability and justice, Lumumba’s admission must feel like betrayal mixed with grim predictability.

Once again, a powerful Democrat claimed to serve the public while quietly serving himself.

The truth has finally caught up to him, and there is no campaign slogan left strong enough to save him from it.
