Matt Damon had an unexpected moment in the spotlight during the FIFA World Cup Final 2026 when a commentator confused him for his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star Brad Pitt, as reported [1] by Page Six.
The 55-year-old actor attended the event with his wife, Luciana Barroso, enjoying the game from the stands as the cameras panned across the celebrity crowd.
During the live broadcast, a Fox sportscaster mistakenly announced to viewers, “Brad Pitt also among the fans here,” while the footage clearly showed Damon next to Barroso.
Realizing the blunder, the commentator quickly corrected his error, clarifying, “Oh, it’s Matt Damon. That’s Matt Damon.” He blamed the mix-up on “a lot of glare on [the] monitors,” and added an apology “to both” actors.

Damon was dressed casually in a navy blue polo shirt, while Barroso showed her support for Argentina by wearing a jersey and a bucket hat.
The Argentinian team ultimately lost to Spain in the championship match.
Viewers quickly took to X to share amused reactions, turning the brief broadcast mix-up into a viral moment.
Some called it a “huge ego boost” and “the best compliment a man can receive,” adding that “there are worse guys to be mistaken for.”
That’s not a bad of a mistake, tbh. I’d be down to be confused with Brad Pitt, huge ego boost!

Several users highlighted the irony that Damon’s latest film, “Odyssey,” features him as Odysseus, while Pitt famously portrayed Achilles in the 2004 epic “Troy.”
One fan wrote, “Odysseus being mistaken for Achilles.”

Reports noted that the mix-up was not limited to one network, with social media users claiming that “Estonian commentators thought it was Brad Pitt as well.”

While Damon was amused by the confusion, neither he nor Pitt has publicly commented on the broadcast glitch.
Pitt, for his part, was recently seen attending another World Cup event earlier in July at SoFi Stadium in California. He was joined by girlfriend Ines de Ramon, along with Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, as Spain defeated Belgium on July 10.
The two A-listers share a long friendship and professional history, having worked together in multiple “Ocean’s” films as well as making cameo appearances in “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” in 2002.
The lighthearted mistake added a moment of levity to the World Cup coverage and gave fans plenty of material to joke about online, proving that even global superstars can be caught up in harmless cases of celebrity confusion.
