Vice President JD Vance turned the Republican National Convention in Dallas into a blunt preview of the coming midterm fight Thursday, hammering Democrats for abandoning what he called birthright American values.
The crowd heard a message centered on family, public safety, border control, and unapologetic national pride.
The speech also delivered [1] an unscripted confrontation when a protester entered the arena waving a Mexican flag and tried to shout Vance down.
Rather than let security quietly handle the spectacle, Vance answered from the stage and turned the disruption into a vivid example of his case against the radical left.
“Well, my friend, if you love Mexico so much, get your ass over there. I’ll buy you the plane ticket,” Vance told the protester.
Republicans inside the American Airlines Center erupted in cheers as security escorted the heckler from the arena.

Vance quickly recognized that the interruption had given him a better political illustration than any prepared line could provide.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I had a whole speech written, but I think I got to change it because we just discovered the symbol of the far left,” he said.
He described the protester as “an idiot waving … a Mexican flag at a protest when he should be waving the flag of the United States of America.”
It was a sharp moment that captured the mood of a party increasingly unwilling to apologize for expecting loyalty to the nation.
“Let’s send these lunatics packing and govern our country for the future,” Vance later declared.
The audience response suggested Republicans are eager for candidates who confront leftist theatrics instead of rewarding them with nervous silence and carefully polished consultant language.
Vance also spoke about the recent birth of his new son and linked his growing family to the administration’s broader agenda.
He argued that President Trump’s first 19 months had focused on making life more affordable, reducing violent crime, securing the border, and restoring common sense to Washington.
“To the radicals who wish to abolish my family and the thousands and millions of other families all across our country, we have a simple message for them: Stay the hell away from our kids,” Vance said.
The line placed parents and traditional families squarely at the center of the Republican appeal.
The vice president then turned his attention to Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El Sayed, reopening a bitter dispute over comments involving second lady Usha Vance.
Vance accused the Democrat of suggesting that his late grandfather might have rejected Usha because she is an Indian American Hindu.
Vance said El Sayed had mockingly asked whether Usha would accompany him back in time to meet his grandfather, known in the family as Papaw.
According to Vance, the smear reduced a loving family relationship to race while revealing the ugly assumptions now routinely disguised as progressive enlightenment.
The attack was especially cynical, Vance argued, because El Sayed was raised in part by white step grandparents and therefore understands that genuine family bonds cross racial lines.
Yet the Democrat still portrayed Vance’s grandfather as someone incapable of embracing Usha.
“This is who the Democrats are now,” Vance said before describing them as “the Democrats are the party of hatred.”
He accused the modern party of despising America and those who built it, while reserving compassion for radicals and terrorists that it rarely extends to ordinary American families.

The dispute first boiled over during an August visit to Detroit, where Vance warned El Sayed to “keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth.”

Thursday’s speech made clear that Vance has no intention of allowing Democrats to drag his wife into their racial politics without receiving an answer.
Vance also addressed disagreements among conservatives over the Iran war, invoking the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk as an example of principled participation.
Kirk opposed war, Vance noted, but continued working within the conservative movement rather than surrendering the country to Democrats over one policy dispute.
“Do not throw the baby out with your bathwater,” Vance urged skeptical Republicans.
