Disturbing New Details Surface After Rob Lowe’s 13 Year Old Niece Dies

Disturbing details have emerged following the death of Fiona Helper Lowe, the 13 year old niece of Rob Lowe and daughter of his younger brother, Chad Lowe. Although no official cause of death has been revealed, the family shared a suicide awareness message after announcing the devastating loss.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Fiona died Tuesday at her family’s home in California. Police were reportedly called to the residence at 12:10am, but no further official details about the circumstances were provided.

During her life, Fiona was reportedly well liked by the people around her. An insider told Page Six, “Fiona was a very well-liked student ,” adding, “She had a lot of friends .”

The Lowe family confirmed Fiona’s death in a statement released hours after her passing. “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the family said.

The statement remembered Fiona as a loving, intelligent and creative young girl who loved dancing. Her family said she was adored by her sisters, deeply loved by her parents and considered the light of their lives.

The family also described her death as devastating for everyone close to her and asked for privacy and prayers while they grieve. Their message concluded with information for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.

“If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health , please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988,” the Lowe family said. The message did not identify an official cause of Fiona’s death.

The principal of Fiona’s Los Angeles school later sent an email to parents informing them that a student had died. The email did not name the student, though the article identified that student as Fiona.

“It is with deep sadness that I am calling you to advise you of the death of one of our students ,” the email read. “Our sincere condolences go out to the student’s family, friends and teachers .”

The school also informed families that emotional help would be available following the loss. “Counselors are available to meet with students and staff who may need emotional support during this difficult time,” the email added.

Fiona was the middle of three daughters born to Chad, 58, and producer Kim Painter, 52. The couple, who have been married since 2010, are also parents to Mabel Painter, 17, and Nixie Barbara, 10.

On Wednesday, Fiona’s grandfather Chuck Lowe, 87, honored her publicly on Instagram. Chuck, the father of Chad and Rob, 62, shared a photograph showing Fiona swimming in a pool.

“Rest in peace sweet Fiona,” Chuck wrote alongside the image. His brief tribute followed the family’s public confirmation of the 13 year old’s death.

Fiona and her family had endured another devastating loss the previous year when their home was destroyed in the Pacific Palisades Fire. In February 2025, Chad revealed that his daughters had returned to see what remained of the home where they had grown up.

“Almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what’s left of their home,” Chad wrote on Instagram. “The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable.”

Chad said at the time that he was in awe of his daughters’ spirit and resilience. He described helping them through the difficult period as his sole purpose and called being their father his greatest joy and privilege.

Chad was previously married to Hilary Swank, the actress who has won two Oscars. In the wake of Fiona’s death, however, the family’s focus remained on remembering the young girl, supporting those who loved her and requesting privacy during an unimaginable period of grief.

The Lowe family’s statement offered no official explanation for Fiona’s death. It instead paired a loving remembrance of her life with a direct appeal for people struggling with mental health to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
