Elon Musk Puts Democrats and Their Puppet Masters on Notice After Lawfare Threats [WATCH]

Elon Musk is warning Democratic lawmakers that any attempt to unleash congressional investigations against him and his businesses will meet determined resistance. His message came as Democrats considered how they might use oversight powers if they capture one or both chambers of Congress.

Musk responded [1] to a Politico story detailing potential Democratic investigations into the billionaire and companies including Tesla and SpaceX. The report focused on how Democrats could scrutinize Musk if they gain the congressional authority needed to pursue those inquiries.

“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” Musk wrote in a post on X, the social media platform he owns. The statement offered a blunt answer to lawmakers apparently preparing for political combat.

Musk followed that warning with an even more pointed message about anyone who decides to target him. He made clear that his response would not necessarily stop with the lawmakers directly involved.

“Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets.”

The warning lands as Musk remains a prominent figure in Republican politics and federal policy debates. He has been a major donor to GOP candidates and worked with the Trump administration through the Department of Government Efficiency, commonly known as DOGE.

Musk helped launch DOGE at the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term. The effort was created to root out waste and promote transparency concerning spending across the federal government.

His companies also conduct business with the federal government, giving Democrats another avenue for scrutiny if they obtain a congressional majority. Democratic lawmakers have alleged that Musk faces conflicts of interest because firms including SpaceX and Tesla receive contracts from a range of federal agencies.

Musk was heavily involved in DOGE operations before leaving the organization and his Trump administration role in late May 2025. He departed after his 130-day status as a special government employee expired.

Following his departure, Musk returned his focus to his responsibilities as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. He had also disagreed with aspects of the new administration’s policies.

While Musk was involved, DOGE pursued deferred resignations and employee buyouts at federal agencies. Those efforts contributed to a substantial reduction in the size of the federal workforce during 2025.

The federal workforce contracted by about 250,000 employees during that year, according to the Government Accountability Office. That contraction represented one of the most visible results associated with the government efficiency operation.

DOGE’s actions, however, also drew demands for investigations from critics. Those calls focused on the organization’s role in accessing sensitive information, including Social Security records, as well as its involvement in withholding funds.

That history has placed Musk directly in the path of Democrats contemplating investigations should control of Congress change hands. Their potential targets include his federal government work, the activities of DOGE, and the business relationships between federal agencies and his companies.

Musk’s answer leaves little confusion about how he intends to react if lawmakers proceed. Democrats may be eager to wield oversight powers against one of the GOP’s most prominent donors, but Musk is publicly promising that those political fights will not remain unanswered.
