Husband’s ICE Arrest Tale Crumbles as He Faces Murder Charge

A California husband who allegedly claimed federal immigration agents took his missing wife into custody is now charged with her murder after authorities identified her burned and buried remains in a neighboring county, as reported [1] by Page Six.

Gurinder Gill, 28, allegedly told investigators that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested his wife when she went outside to bring in the mail at their Sacramento home. Investigators later contacted ICE to examine that account.

His wife, Jasmine Gill, was a 30-year-old registered nurse who was born in India. She was also the mother of the couple’s 8-month-old child.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the couple was going through a divorce and a child custody dispute when Jasmine Gill disappeared. She was last seen on Sept. 30.

Jasmine Gill’s cousin reported her missing on Oct. 4. By that point, authorities in neighboring El Dorado County had already discovered burned and buried remains approximately 70 miles from the couple’s Sacramento residence.

The remains were found on Oct. 1, according to investigators. The Sacramento County Sheriff later confirmed that the remains belonged to Jasmine Gill.

As detectives investigated her disappearance, they began scrutinizing what Gurinder Gill had told them. Authorities said his statements contained multiple inconsistencies.

“As the investigation progressed, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance,” Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said in a statement.

Investigators specifically checked Gurinder Gill’s alleged claim that ICE had taken his wife into custody from the residence. That story was contradicted when detectives contacted the federal agency.

“Detectives contacted ICE, which confirmed that no enforcement activity had occurred at the residence,” Igoe said.

Deputies arrested Gurinder Gill on Oct. 14. Authorities also executed search warrants at two homes associated with him as part of the investigation.

Gurinder Gill has been charged with murder and is ineligible for bail. The sheriff’s office identified him as the husband of the victim and said the couple had been involved in both divorce and custody proceedings.

A GoFundMe campaign established for Jasmine Gill’s family said she was born in India, where her mother still lives. The campaign said Jasmine became a registered nurse because she wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

Supporters had raised more than $21,000 through the campaign. The money was intended to help return Jasmine Gill’s remains to her mother and assist with raising her young son.

“She was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby,” the campaign reads. “She was seeking a divorce. She was trying to find the freedom, safety, and fresh start they both deserved. Tragically, before she could build that future, Jasmine was murdered, leaving behind the very child she was fighting so hard to protect.”

The case began as a missing person investigation after Jasmine Gill vanished at the end of September. It shifted dramatically after the discovery in El Dorado County and the identification of her remains.

The alleged ICE account became another focus for Sacramento County detectives as they examined Gurinder Gill’s statements. The agency’s confirmation that no enforcement action occurred at the home directly contradicted the explanation investigators said he provided.

Jasmine Gill’s family is now seeking to return her remains to her mother in India while raising support for the child she left behind. Her husband remains jailed without eligibility for bail while facing the murder charge.
