Rep. Ilhan Omar’s past declaration that “no one is above the law” came roaring [1] back after federal authorities searched her Washington, D.C., home early Monday morning. Critics wasted little time applying the Minnesota Democrat’s own standard to the investigation now landing at her front door.
Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s investigation unit conducted the search as part of a criminal fraud investigation. The investigation concerns immigration paperwork for Omar, who was born in Somalia, that her late father completed when she was a child.
The raid followed months of controversy surrounding Omar during her time in Congress. Her financial disclosures recently drew scrutiny, while top officials also raised questions about her path to citizenship.
Jonathan Fahey suggested the Homeland Security investigation likely concerns naturalization or immigration issues. He also explained that continuing to make false statements on current documents can constitute new criminal acts, potentially avoiding any statute of limitations problem.
The reaction online centered on Omar’s response to President Donald Trump’s indictment in a hush money case. Conservatives had argued that prosecution relied on flimsy evidence and amounted to a political prosecution, but Omar declared at the time that “no one is above the law.”
The Minnesota Republican Party seized on that statement after the federal search. “Rather than issue our own statement, we’ll defer to Rep. Omar,” the party posted on X. “She said it best back in 2023, when the subject of a criminal investigation was someone else.”
The party followed with an even sharper reminder aimed directly at the congresswoman. “We couldn’t agree more, Congresswoman. We’re sure you still feel the same way now that it’s your front door. Minnesotans will be watching closely, and so will we.”
STATEMENT FROM MINNESOTA REPUBLICAN PARTY CHAIR ALEX PLECHASH
“Today, federal agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant at Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home as part of an ongoing investigation.
Rather than issue our own statement, we’ll defer to Rep. Omar. She said it best back in 2023, when the subject of a criminal investigation was someone else:
‘Our democracy rests on the rule of law. When someone—no matter how powerful they are—is suspected of a criminal act, our justice system investigates, charges, and convicts them in accordance with due process.’
‘Now it is up to all of us, as citizens and elected leaders, to support accountability and to follow the facts where they lead.’
‘No one is above the law.’We couldn’t agree more, Congresswoman. We’re sure you still feel the same way now that it’s your front door. Minnesotans will be watching closely, and so will we.”

Townhall columnist Dustin Grage delivered a similarly blunt response. “Ilhan Omar was right,” Grage posted. “Nobody is above the law.”
Ilhan Omar was right.
“I hope all of us will join together in supporting justice and accountability—regardless of party—for the sake of our Democracy.”

Charlie Kirk Show executive producer Andrew Kolvet also repeated Omar’s old line before taking another swipe at her controversies. “No one is above the law,” Kolvet posted. “(And getting [sic] lectured by a Somali about the rule of law is rich. Not as rich as Rep. Omar was before she revised her financial statements, but rich.)”

Conservative commentator Viva Frei offered another pointed reaction. “So much for ‘no one is above the law,’” he posted on X as news of the federal search spread.

Omar responded hours after the search began and accused the Trump administration of targeting her for political reasons. “I’m ok,” Omar wrote on X. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”
She continued by accusing Trump of conducting a prolonged campaign against her. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” she wrote. “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

The Department of Justice confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations had carried out a search authorized through the judicial process.
“Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The DOJ later clarified that the investigation was “criminal” in nature. With that confirmation, Omar’s critics kept returning to the same standard she once invoked when the person under investigation was someone else: “no one is above the law.”
