JD Vance Leaves Podium to Check on Collapsed Woman, Leads Rally in Prayer [WATCH]

Vice President JD Vance interrupted a Thursday rally in North Platte, Nebraska, after a woman experienced a medical event and collapsed in the stands behind him. Rather than remain behind the podium, Vance turned [1] his attention toward the woman and those helping her.

The woman reportedly “appeared to pass out in the stand behind the vice president” while Vance was addressing the audience. The medical emergency quickly drew assistance from other rally attendees and medical personnel at the event.

As those nearby began attending to the woman, Vance asked the crowd to join him in prayer. He then led the rally audience in The Lord’s Prayer while medical personnel continued working to help her.

“While they’re working on her, maybe those who are of the praying type will join me in a prayer,” Vance said. The crowd joined the vice president as he recited the prayer from the stage.

Vance did not simply continue with his prepared rally appearance after the prayer. As medical personnel and other attendees remained with the woman, he called out from the stage to ask about her condition.

“How’s she doing?” Vance asked. He then left the podium, stepped down from the stage, and made his way into the crowd to check on the woman himself.

Vance climbed into the stands located behind the stage, where the woman had collapsed. His departure from the podium brought him directly to the area where attendees and medical personnel were assisting her.

The vice president later revealed that the woman told him it was her “first rally,” according to Fox News. The brief detail emerged after Vance had gone into the stands to check on her condition personally.

Newsweek reported that the woman “appeared to recover” following the medical event.

After the rally, Vance addressed the incident in a post on X. He offered prayers for the woman, expressed hope for her recovery, and thanked those who moved quickly to provide assistance.

“My prayers are with the woman who had a medical emergency at today’s rally in Nebraska,” Vance wrote. “I hope she has a speedy recovery. Thank you to the medical staff and first responders who reacted swiftly to make sure she was taken care of, and to the crowd for making sure she was able to be attended to.”

The message recognized both professional responders and members of the crowd who helped create room for the woman to receive care. Vance also kept the focus on her recovery after the rally had ended.

The medical emergency unfolded during Vance’s appearance in North Platte on behalf of Nebraska Republicans. He was there to rally support for Sen. Pete Ricketts and Gov. Jim Pillen.

Both Ricketts and Pillen are up for reelection. The rally was intended to support their campaigns, but the woman’s collapse temporarily shifted attention away from politics and toward the response in the stands.

Vance’s first public response was to lead the audience in prayer while help was being provided. His next move was to leave the stage and enter the stands rather than merely ask for an update from the podium.

The woman’s reported recovery provided a welcome development after the sudden interruption. Vance’s subsequent statement continued the prayerful tone he had established in front of the Nebraska crowd.

The episode ended with the vice president thanking medical staff, first responders, and attendees for their swift actions. His message also repeated his hope that the woman would experience a speedy recovery after her first rally.
