Kelly Clarkson Caught on Camera Inside the Store She Savaged Online [WATCH]

Newly released security footage shows Kelly Clarkson inside Brooklyn curiosity shop Art of Play during the brief visit that erupted into a bitter online feud. The silent video was obtained by journalist Pablo Torre, as reported [1] by The Daily Mail.

Clarkson, 44, enters wearing a grey baseball hat, yellow T-shirt, baggy blue jeans, and a backpack. She browses several items before approaching Molly, the $15,000 mechanical bird at the center of the dispute.

The American Idol winner spent only four minutes and 50 seconds inside the store. She appears to speak with a shopkeeper she later called an “idiot [2]” while attacking the business online.

The shopkeeper seems to point something out before he and Clarkson walk in opposite directions. He later appears to point out something else while looking toward her, although her back is turned.

Clarkson then returns an item she had seemingly considered buying to a shelf. Before leaving, she appears to complain about the shopkeeper to a busy cashier while gesturing with her arms.

Torre noted that Clarkson was dressed similarly to other customers in the store. He suggested she was not singled out because of her appearance, as she had previously appeared to claim.

The clash began Saturday when Clarkson blasted Art of Play on social media. She claimed staff presumed she could not afford Molly, although the store has maintained that the mechanical bird was never available for purchase.

Clarkson wrote: “Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me.”

She continued: “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale. But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman.”

Her post compared the encounter to Vivian Ward’s treatment in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman. In the film, the character played by Julia Roberts is ejected from an upscale Beverly Hills clothing store because of her attire.

A $15,000 price tag had long appeared beside Molly on the store wall, prompting questions about whether Clarkson’s frustration was justified. Art of Play said the tag referred to an identical ornament that was not on display.

The sign has since been updated to describe Molly as the world’s most famous singing bird automata. Store representatives said they would have directed Clarkson to Molly’s creator, Bliss Kolb, if she wanted to commission a similar piece.

Store owner Adam Rubin, 43, said he was supposed to be recovering after having skin cancer removed from his face. Instead, he said he rushed to Art of Play to manage the uproar surrounding Clarkson’s post.

Rubin accused Clarkson of placing his business and employees in danger by publicly targeting the shop. “Kelly Clarkson has put us in danger,” he said, citing threatening phone calls, threatening text messages, and harassment.

He also said the shop had been review-bombed, people had screamed outside the business, and neighbors had been doxed. Rubin characterized the episode as an enormous misunderstanding that became a reprehensible abuse of power.

Rubin further claimed Clarkson yelled at the shopkeeper while leaving and vowed never to return. Locals subsequently defended the business, while Rubin said his staff remained rattled by the attention.

Molly, normally the centerpiece of magic theater shows staged by the shop, has become the unexpected star of the controversy. Rubin joked that the bird’s value had increased dramatically and floated a hypothetical $15 million sale.

Clarkson rose to fame after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. She later hosted The Kelly Clarkson Show on NBC until it ended in August 2026 so she could spend more time with her family.

The singer was married to talent manager Brandon Blackstock from 2013 until 2022. Blackstock, the father of Clarkson’s children, died from skin cancer at age 48 in August 2025.

The Daily Mail contacted Clarkson’s representatives for comment as the newly surfaced footage fueled further scrutiny of the encounter. The silent recording captures the visit but does not reveal what was said during the exchange.
