Marco Rubio Goes Off as He Reveals Brutal Sanctions on the ICC [WATCH]

Secretary of State Marco Rubio sharply escalated the United States’ confrontation with the International Criminal Court on Friday, announcing [1] broad sanctions aimed not merely at particular officials, but at the institution itself. The move marks a major step against a body that describes its mission as “Trying individuals for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression.”

Washington previously levied sanctions against individual ICC judges and prosecutors. Rubio’s latest announcement puts the entire organization on notice while making clear that the United States may not be finished applying pressure.

“We will ban transactions with this rogue court, cutting off their resources and crippling their ability to operate against us,” Rubio said in announcing the move. “The United States and the American people are not subject to the jurisdiction of this fake ICC.”

That represents a significant escalation from the previous American approach. Instead of focusing only on the people operating the court, Friday’s action targets the institution and could potentially cut off its access to American companies and the United States financial system.

The Trump administration has already sanctioned numerous ICC officials over the court’s attempts to assert jurisdiction over Americans and Israelis. Those measures had placed judges and prosecutors in the crosshairs, but Rubio’s action widens the campaign considerably.

The ICC issued an arrest warrant last year for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The warrant accused Netanyahu of “war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, including the use of starvation as a weapon and directing attacks against civilians.”

Rubio presented the dispute as a direct matter of American sovereignty rather than a routine disagreement with an international organization. His message was that American citizens and leaders do not answer to a court that the United States does not recognize as having authority over them.

“For decades now, both Republicans and Democrats have rejected the idea that the International Criminal Court has any power to prosecute American citizens,” Rubio said. “We don’t need that court, and we don’t want it.”

Rubio also argued that the Netanyahu warrant was not the limit of the ICC’s ambitions. He warned that the court could target Americans carrying out border security and national security responsibilities.

“They want to prosecute Border Patrol agents that are protecting our nation’s borders, and they want to prosecute our elected leaders that are ensuring our national security,” Rubio said. His warning placed the stakes squarely on American officials and personnel who could face the court’s claims of authority.

“They want more power, and they want it at the expense of our sovereignty as a nation,” Rubio added. That accusation formed the heart of the administration’s case against allowing the ICC to continue pursuing Americans without consequences.

Rubio’s warning extended beyond the court itself to American allies that cooperate with the ICC while relying on the United States for military needs. He made clear that Washington expects those countries to help restrain the institution rather than enable it.

“We expect our allies … to rein in this rogue court,” Rubio said. “If they do not, the United States will continue its campaign to dismantle the ICC piece by piece, until Americans are threatened no longer.”

The ICC responded by condemning the sanctions and vowing to continue its work. Rubio, however, signaled that the United States is moving beyond limited penalties against individual officials and is now prepared to squeeze the organization itself.

His final warning left little room for diplomatic ambiguity or bureaucratic evasions. “Either the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC.”

The action reflects the Trump administration’s peace through strength approach and its willingness to confront institutions it views as threatening American sovereignty. Friday’s announcement told the ICC that its attempts to claim authority over Americans and Israelis will bring escalating consequences from Washington.
