Samuel L. Jackson Reveals Mystery Avengers Return but Marvel Has Told Him Nothing [WATCH]

Samuel L. Jackson is preparing to suit up as Nick Fury once again, confirming that another Avengers appearance is in his future. There is just one major complication: The veteran Marvel actor says he has no idea what the project will involve, as reported by Yahoo [1].

Jackson disclosed his next appearance as the former SHIELD director during a brief conversation with The Direct. The exchange took place at the premiere of his new film, The Beast.

“Next movie… [The] movie after this one,” Jackson said when discussing where audiences could expect to see him. His answer pointed toward a return after the next movie on Marvel Studios’ theatrical calendar.

Asked what he could reveal about the mysterious project, the Pulp Fiction and Unbreakable star made clear that he had not received any meaningful details.

“I have no idea. [Marvel] hasn’t told me anything, other than, ‘You’re not gonna be in this movie. You’ll be in the next.’”

Jackson did not explicitly identify either movie in that response. Entertainment Weekly reported that “this movie” almost certainly refers to Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios’ next film, which is scheduled to reach theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.

The movie following Doomsday on the studio’s calendar is Avengers: Secret Wars. That film is scheduled to arrive on Dec. 17, 2027, and Jackson’s comments indicate that it is the project in which he will appear.

Entertainment Weekly reached out to a representative for Marvel Studios for comment. Meanwhile, very little has been disclosed about Secret Wars, leaving Jackson’s Nick Fury return surrounded by the same secrecy as the rest of the film.

Anthony and Joe Russo will direct Secret Wars. The movie is expected to serve as the second half of a two-movie arc beginning with Doomsday, following a structure similar to 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Jackson most recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023’s The Marvels. That same year, he led a Marvel project for the first time with Secret Invasion, the critically maligned Disney+ miniseries.

His history with the franchise reaches back to 2008’s Iron Man, which introduced Fury as he recruited Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., into the Avengers Initiative. The appearance came in the film’s iconic scene after the credits.

Jackson later appeared in Iron Man 2, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. His run continued through Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

He also reprised Nick Fury in two episodes of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Jackson voiced the character in the animated shows What If? and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, both of which are not canon.

Doomsday will bring together superheroes from three different universes as Victor Von Doom, played by Downey, emerges as a new threat.

The crossover includes returning Avengers performers Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Winston Duke, Hayley Atwell, and Sebastian Stan.

Thunderbolts stars Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, David Harbour, and Lewis Pullman are also set to appear.

Fantastic Four: First Steps actors Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will join them, along with returning MCU performers Simu Liu, Danny Ramirez, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía.

Actors from Fox’s X-Men universe will also appear beside the MCU stars. That group includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, and Channing Tatum.

Avengers: Doomsday will premiere in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows one year later on Dec. 17, 2027, apparently bringing Jackson’s famously secretive Nick Fury back into Marvel’s sprawling superhero story.
