Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has officially removed her father’s famous surname from her legal name. The 18-year-old is now the fourth of the former couple’s six children to drop Pitt from her name, as reported [1] by Us Magazine.
A Los Angeles judge approved Vivienne’s petition on Monday, November 2. Her legal name changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
“There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” read court paperwork obtained by Us on Monday. “The Decree is signed and filed.”

Vivienne’s attorney, Peter Kenneth Levine, appeared remotely during the Monday morning hearing. Judge Virginia Keeny presided at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse of the Los Angeles Superior Court.
During the hearing, Keeny read aloud the names of people whose name change petitions had been approved. She also explained how those petitioners could obtain copies of their decrees from the courthouse.
“These are name change petitions, which are going to be granted. That means that I can read the information provided and sign a decree, and you’ll be able to get a copy of the decree in possibly one week in Room 112 in the first floor of this building, the Stanley Mosk Courthouse,” Keeny said.
“So if you hear your name, you can sign off, and you can get your paperwork in a week.” The judge reportedly continued, “I’m going to read both the last name and also the last four numbers of the case.”
Vivienne initially filed the paperwork on July 20, eight days after she and her twin brother, Knox, turned 18. Court documents obtained by Us at the time listed the reason behind her request as “personal.”
A source close to Jolie, 51, addressed the children’s circumstances following the filing. The source emphasized that they had not publicly discussed the situation or spoken negatively about it.
“If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them,” the source told Us.
“The fact they aren’t speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency.”
The legal change followed more than two years of Vivienne publicly using only her mother’s surname. In May 2024, the Playbill for the Broadway production of The Outsiders credited her as “Vivienne Jolie.”
Vivienne is not the first of Jolie and Pitt’s children to legally remove their father’s surname. Her older sister Shiloh, 20, was the first of their six children to complete the legal process.
Shiloh filed her paperwork in May 2024, and her request was granted that August. The former couple’s daughter Zahara, 21, followed suit in September, as did their son Maddox, 25.
Knox has also publicly omitted Pitt from his name, though he has not legally changed it. His high school diploma in June displayed his name without “Pitt,” according to the source material.
Jolie and Pitt, 62, also share another son, Pax, 22. Together, the former couple have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
The actors were married from 2014 until 2016. Their divorce was finalized in 2024, though they remain involved in a separate legal dispute concerning their French winery, Château Miraval.
Vivienne’s approved petition makes her legal surname consistent with the name she had already been using publicly. Following the court’s decision, she is officially known as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
